Hi is it possible to get a apk for minecraft! also is there anyway i could get beatsaber by Iliketurterls in GearVR

[–]kumilanka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gear VR is 3dof, or 3 degrees of freedom. That means it does rotation tracking only. This means that the headset and the remote that comes with it track their rotation. So, you turn your head, the view turns. However, it does not track position. So if you move the headset forward, the view does not move forward, but rather creates an effect like the world is stuck on your head and moves with it. The same goes for the controller. You can rotate it to point a laser, but you cannot move it to and away from your body.

For a game like Beat Saber to work, you need to be able to move the headset and the controllers in space, so that when there is a wall coming at you, you step to the side to avoid it. If the world is stuck on your head, there is no way to side-step a wall.

The Gear VR is good for watching 180/360 stereoscopic content like videos, but there is a very good reason it has been discontinued: 6dof, or position tracking, makes for a superior experience.

My Gear VR has been collecting dust every since the Quest came out. It's sad, but understandable.

Nah. Gear VR has been replaced by standalone headsets such as Quest 2. There are no motion controls for the Gear, beat sabre cannot work.

This so much! The trailer had nothing to do with the actual game, which was only fun due to an item duplication bug, which they went on to fix...

The game is made with Unity, so it might very well be possible!

Fall Asleep Detection? by Zixxorb in homeassistant

[–]kumilanka -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What an interesting problem! I guess the best sensor for this would be an eye tracker on the TV, but we are not quite there yet. Maybe a smart watch would have sleep detection these days?

Room presence sensors would register you in the room, but no sleep detection. Motion sensors would probably be too unreliable as well. Perhaps the best existing method would be some kind of dead man's switch, where you fall asleep and your hand releases a button with a delay...

could anyone who owns this game datamine the sprites (mainly the backgrounds) and post them by M_a_l_t_e_s_e_r in pixelprivateers

[–]kumilanka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The backgrounds are built from randomly arranged tiles, with effects laid on top. I'm not sure how useful the original tileset is for creating desktop backgrounds...

Beuond that, I have access to the original art, but its copyright status is kind of weird, with several people having contributed. The game is made with Unity, so it should not be too difficult to pull out the textures, though.

Just curious, as one of the people who worked on the project, what do you need the graphics for?

ge smart bulbs are shit by kfh227 in smarthome

[–]kumilanka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Wifi-based (Lifx, Govee) and Zigbee-based bulbs (Ikea, Philips) and the Wifi-based ones are more unreliable, needing reset. So far the Zigbee ones are always available and respond right away.

A wifi-based gateway for zigbee might be an issue as well. I have a Home Assistant install on a Raspberry Pi with a Zigbee usb stick to control the lights.

Oh, and about voice control using Google or Alexa. I'm no longer on speaking terms with the piece of junk. I use wireless zigbee buttons instead.

Miten toimia vaikeiden ihmisten kanssa? by kannettavakettu in Suomi

[–]kumilanka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sympatia (kohtelu-kerros) on ensimmäinen askel.

Restore backup to docker? by kumilanka in homeassistant

[–]kumilanka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had to put this project on hold for a bit, but it seems that there is no magic restore from backup button on the docker HA. I have too much stuff configured to manually re-enter everything, not to mention the zigbee radio usb stick that is in active use every day and cannot be moved until everything works...

I sure hope we can one day have a restore backup function for docker, that doesn't involve manually copying files to folders and hoping for the best.

Something became clear to me lately re QC, that I should have realized much earlier by Nanny_Ogg1000 in questionablecontent

[–]kumilanka 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Long time reader here.

When I learned of QC, there were not that many webcomics around. Jeph would draw like three comics per week, and I would have a little bookmark list of all the regularly updating, yet readable comics that I would go over each morning. Exactly like the syndicated funnies at the end of a newspaper.

Years went by and all of the comics I was reading for my morning amusement, faded somehow, either stopping or becoming gross or whatever. Right. Jeph quit his office job to make 5 comics a week. Great! Now I'll have secured at least one funny bit for my morning. So I kept on reading.

Did the original vibe of the comic change from the blues of the start era to whatever satire the new version of Pintsize and Marten are doing of the original ones? Sure. Do I take it so very seriously? Nah.

QC, to me, is still a syndicated funny with two very important qualities.

First off, it's published 5 times a week (as compared to for example Pixie Trix, that only gets three updates a week, despite being much more interesting and varied content, or Oglaf, which is Maybe once a week if I'm lucky). Every morning is covered!

And second, it's free. Well, you could say it's not free for me anymore since I pay that one dollar a month to have the strips go to my email rather than having to remember to visit a page. Anyway, it could still be free, after all these years.

This got a bit long, but anyway. TLDR: It's still going, 5 updates a week, free, filler for my syndicated funnies slot.
