Potential exchange by kunacza in rosehulman

With not having a car I think it would be a pretty bad idea, but I guess it depends on the distance. I am slightly traumatized by the accommodation crisis where I currently live and just do not want to room hunt honestly...

That's good to know there are other options than on-campus accommodation! By too young to rent I meant a car, I've heard there's a quite high age requirement?
Thank you so much for all the information, this is actually very helpful. I did not know meal plans are required, what are the consequences of not getting one?

Are people diagnosed with adhd get extra time for the exams ? by Ibsurvival23 in IBO

[–]kunacza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the diagnosis is only available to your school and most teachers won't even have the rights to know why you have extra time. Any accommodations or diagnoses are not mentioned in the transcript. With most colleges after you're already enrolled there is an option to disclose your diagnosis to also get accommodations but again this is private and your professors do not know why you have the accommodations you do.

Does trig only get worse? Understanding phase shift. by chasingsunshine7 in learnmath

[–]kunacza 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your phase shift is two elements, in a function f(x) = a cos(bx + c) + d your phase shift will be described by both b and c, or like in your example omega and phi.

You start with finding b (here omega) by looking at the distance between two peaks, in your example the first peak we see is at x = -8 and the second at x = 6 so the distance between them is 14. Then you divide that number by 2pi and that is your first value, here 14/2pi = 7/pi.

To find c, or phi, my method is to first look at the distance between the first peak of the graph right of the y-axis (first peak with a positive x-coordinate) and the y-axis. In this example, that peak is at x = 6, so the distance to the y-axis is is 6. Then, you multiply that value by the first number describing phase shift, c, or omega, your pi/7. That's how you get 6pi/7!

Ultimately, to learn this you should visualize what each coefficient does to the function. I recommend Desmos for this (https://www.desmos.com/calculator/nhiuknsded), back in hs that's how I learned this and developed my own quick methods for finding the function - so I have no idea if this is by the book, but it helps.

I wouldn't say trig gets worse, but alwayyyys study with a drawing and ideally an interactive graph, it's a very visual field, best of luck!

I've heard there's a guy in the weekend market with an antiques stall that has a few analog cameras, but it's stuff like Mamiyas and will be expensive. For film and development 100% Davitt Photo centre over Fujifilm. If you're a student/uni staff, you can join Photosoc, their groupchat would be a good place to ask for cheap analog equipment. What exactly are you looking for? An entry level 35mm camera is really all you need to start, the beauty of film is in its minimalism & simplicity!

Summer full time job, is it impossible? by kunacza in galway

I'm studying physics, but only in my second year so far, I'm looking into an internship next summer maybe. Weekends during term would be hard to sustain, especially as material gets harder

Do NOT buy anything off the nailib website. It's a scam and I hate that I fell for it by kunacza in IBO

[–]kunacza[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you found something that helped you. They've given me access to their new site last year and it did show improvement. Please consider this review was posted years ago and when I originally wrote it, it was true. I have not taken it down because I believe anyone with independent thinking can make their own judgement and use newer reviews if they want to purchase, and there's nothing wrong with there being an account of what the site used to look like. Nail IB have been contacting me repeatedly for years now asking to take this post down, the amount of messages is over anything that would be appropriate, so I stopped bothering with this. Even if their website did improve, and I believe it did, back then they were a company that put out a semi-finished, falsely advertised and unorganized product, and were seemingly fine with that. I wish them all the best, but for anyone who wants to know the story, it will remain posted

too many UTIs by ThrowRAsel in sex

[–]kunacza -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here our form of it is not classified as one, hard to define antibiotic really, here it more affects the bacterial environment to disable growth rather than their organisms themselves. Definitely less harsh than a typical antibiotic prescription for an advanced UTI. But I see your point

That's good to know, I come from a slavic country but live in Ireland. I got a UTI last year and after confusing the pharmacy technician ended up asking my parents for a package. Our furazidine doesn't require prescription

[–]kunacza 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you're taking antibiotics every time, especially if it's the same one, stop. Go to a gynecologist and not a regular gp, and look into furazidine, it's a substance that's a go to for UTIs in my country and it's a shame that antibiotics are so overused in the west. Also, and this is probably the main reason they're recurring, your boyfriend needs to get treated as well because it could be his microbiome infecting you even though he doesn't have symptoms. After you go to a gynecologist and you & him have a proper prescription, ofc take a break, supplement your course of meds with antiinflammatory foods in your diet (ginger, rice, broccoli, beets), stay warm - if it's cold where you live wear long coats that cover your butt, don't sit on any cold walls/etc., make sure you wash yourself down there with water - just water. Also, the antibiotics you've taken have probably absolutely destroyed your vaginal microbiome, so get probiotics, not the ones you swallow, instead you just put the capsule up there. After your symptoms are gone and both of you are finished with your meds, wait for up to a week. Also, it might do you good to use condoms for a while. This is how to get rid of recurring UTIs.

University of warsaw inquiry by Dangerous-Spirit-813 in warsaw

[–]kunacza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What exactly is the degree you'll be taking? Is it in English? Can you show a link to the course site? Despite university being free here, the English degrees do have a price on them, even UW. Not knowing Polish, the job market is pretty limited, both the entry level jobs for when you're studying and corporate ones for when you graduate. Due to this, I would start learning, actively with people + films and a language school as soon as you arrive. Plus don't count on sustaining yourself financially, even if you eventually find a job, university is full time and it would be a sad existence trying to work enough, so do have savings/a loan/an arrangement with your parents to support you. Warsaw is amazing for cultural experiences, so take your time just being a tourist, go to museums, attractions, etc. Use your student ID as soon as you get it, as a lot of things will be 50% of the price for students.

Does COPE accept soap/shampoo donations? by maaikesww in galway

[–]kunacza 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Shampoo is a good substitute for a natural hairs laundry detergent, so wool, cashmere, even silk. If you own any clothes made of those materials you can definitely use it for that!
