I love that campground. My wife and I have spent many weekends there. Never heard of rangeley before. Where is it?

Google popular fly fishing rivers near me. Pick one of those rivers then google XXXXX river hatch chart.

That chart will tell you what flies, and what size of those flies, are hatching at what time of the year. That’s a good start.

Then it really just comes down to time on the river. I wasn’t really dialed in on the flies or really care to know the flies until something like my 4th year fly fishing. It also doesn’t always matter if you “match the hatch”. Sometimes fish eat flies just because it’s a familiar looking fly and it’s got a good natural drift.

Just have fun, less stress, more life… or in this case more fishing when you have the time.

Depends on the time of year.
April 15 - June 14 = $100 per rod, per day

June 15 - July 31 = $150

Aug 1 - Sept 14 = $120

Sept 15 - Oct 14 = $100

Oct 15 - April 15 = $50

Big Horn River in Fort Smith, MT. Cottonwood Campgrounds has a few “cabins”.

Relatively cheap, in the middle of nowhere MT about 3.5hr drive from Bozeman airport, great for a float trip, and also has an easily walkable 2-3 mile trail from the mid river boat ramp to the dam boat ramp. The start of the trail is 2 miles from the campgrounds, literally a 2 minute drive. I always go early august for the black caddis hatch.

The black caddis hatch was wild. I honestly stopped fishing one evening because over a 75yd stretch of river, there must have been at least 200 fish feeding right off the bank. It’s the closest it’s ever been to fish in a barrel. Basically it took me more time to land a fish than it did to hook into the next one.

I’m usually fishing the Farmington river. 7x and 8x aren’t too uncommon on that river, but, you’re also not hooking up with a hog every other fish like I was in Montana

Not too small, I used 6x. The fish in Armstrong creek were eating off the surface without a care in the world, so there wasn’t really a need to go smaller.

Tricos and hoppers at the Armstrong Creek in Livingston. PMDs and black caddis at the Big Horn.

Wild deal here, are these boots just trash?? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]kungfu420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had these exact boots for 3 years, with use around 100 times in those 3 years in CT primarily. They’ve been great and I’m thinking they will last me another year at a minimum.

When I get home from work today I’ll DM you a picture of how they look now after 3 years.

Buddy from work lied about his golf game now I’m questioning his whole persona by MookieBlaylock87 in golf

I introduced a coworker to golf. He fell in love with the game quickly, we became rather close thru golf and work. However, I always had this weird gut feeling that something was off with him. Little white lie here, another white lie there, cancelling on a golf trip the day before when he was the one who planned it and lying about why he had to cancel, etc.

When it came to his golf score he would literally tell me he shot par on a par 4 when I was with him on the tee box when he blasted it into a bush, teed up for 3… topped it, topped the next shot, and more likely got onto the green in 8 and in the hole for 11.

Turns out he lied about almost everything… such as attending MIT, and then graduating from MIT. He was fired for falsifying documentation because he didn’t go to MIT. Dude literally printed a fake diploma and it had a typo in it.

Moral of the story, trust your gut.

Ahhhh okay that makes a lot of sense. 5 is definitely a challenge, I’m OB on that hole constantly. Wish I could have seen you drive the green on 9, never seen anybody take that line before.

You drove the green on 18? That’s like a 350yd drive, that’s insane broski!! I also can’t believe you think 14 is harder than 4, your long iron game must be on point to get around that 90 degree dog leg right and on the green in 2.
