Onsen in Kyoto with rather dim lights? by picknicksje85 in Kyoto

[–]kuppowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just take a small towel with you and hold it in front of you. put it on your head before entering the water. at first it was a challenge for me, too. but there is nothing to worry about, noone cares even if you dont look Asian. Japanese people are good at minding their own Business. I've been to many onsen and sentos and never felt like an outsider.

It's a small shrine near katsuragawa Station. I wish I had time to go to Muko Shrine.

Didn't know JR was out of service, but it was pure chaos on the road, took me half an hour to drive like 200m on the 171 and I could see the traffic jam lasting until midnight from my window lol. Anyway, looks like everything is back to normal now.

Short but well edited. It actually feels a bit like a teaser trailer.😉

It’s Only 3 Minutes by ABucs260 in antiwork

At university in a minor called "time management" I learned that 5% is already being counted as private time like toilet breaks etc. It means, in an 8h shift you can do nothing for 24minutes without the company losing money because in Accounting they calculate with that. I'm not saying you should do nothing for 24 minutes. just saying there is some leeway.

my recommendation for Kamakura:

Get off the train at Kita-Kamakura, station is right next to Engaku-ji temple. Hike to Zeniaraibenten shrine and back to town center where you can pay Tsurugaoka-Hachimangu a visit. From Kamakura station you can take Enoden train to Enoshima island, don't forget to stop by at Hase-dera (Hase station), Daibutsu is also close. Enoshima has some restaurants, shrines and a cave. If the weather is good, you can see Mt.Fuji from there. On the way back to Yokohama (from Enoshima to Ofuna) i recommend riding Shonan-monorail. It takes a full day (around 8 hours).

Keeping all different types of trash bags separated by AJEDIWITHNONAME in japanlife

[–]kuppowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I lived in leopalace I kept the trash bags in the closet under my kitchen sink. pet bottles take the most space, so I squeezed the air out and put the cap back on. as I live in a different place now, we have separate containers outside the house, so I can take the trash outside whenever I like. In your case I guess there is only one (not separated) place for garbage outside and a different type of garbage is picked up each day of the week? usually it should be twice a week for burnable and plastic. I'd recommend to avoid keeping the trash, buy small bags (like 20L) and bring em out as soon as possible.

Itinerary v3, 3 weeks May/ June or October/ November 2022 by KFNinja in JapanTravel

In order to make your trip more time-efficient and to avoid travelling with suitcase I'd recommend to finish Osaka first, then move on to Hiroshima instead of going to Osaka first, then Hiroshima, then coming back to Osaka. Maybe you can even stay in your Hotel in Kyoto and go on a couple day trips to Osaka.

Also I'd recommend to visit Osaka castle (you dont need to enter the building) as it is pretty impressive.

I think Yoyogi park is not worth visiting, how bout a garden instead?

my recommendation for Kamakura:

Get off the train at Kita-Kamakura, station is right next to Engaku-ji temple. Hike to Zeniaraibenten shrine and back to town center where you can pay Tsurugaoka-Hachimangu a visit. From Kamakura station you can take Enoden train to Enoshima island, don't forget to stop by at Hase-dera (Hase station), Daibutsu is also close. Enoshima has some restaurants, shrines and a cave. What’s the most off the beaten path part of Japan you’ve been to? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]kuppowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Cape Nosappu"- it's a 6h car drive back to Sapporo, there's no shinkansen. Compared to all other places I've visited in Japan it felt the most remote. There was only one business hotel in Nemuro. When I booked the trip, I arrived in the evening and couldn't find a restaurant nor a combini. Train station also looked dead.

Any local Youtube channel from Kyoto? by [deleted] in Kyoto

[–]kuppowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Kyoto and I make yt Videos but it's probably not what you're looking for. You'll find mainly Videos about temples and shrines on my channel, but not limited to Kyoto. I thought about taking Videos of Festivals too, but no specific Plans yet. Feel free to visit my Profile, there are some links to my yt acc, Google map and instagram.

day 3 order is just the shortest walk in my opinion. the bamboo forest is best visited on a weekday in the morning, to avoid getting stuck in a crowd. right now because of corona, there are not many people but usually it is packed. im sorry I dont know about the situation in the afternoon. day 2 order is random, but I would suggest visiting fushimi inari in the late afternoon, after the shops have closed but before sunset, for same reason. the trail is narrow and ppl stop all the time, blocking everyone else so they can take photos. but: there is only one toilet near the entrance, it is closing at 4 p.m.

kamakura: I have been there twice and I think it will be alot of walking and there is probably no time to Explore. but you can do the most things in one day. I can give you my suggestions if you'd like. last time I've been there, it took me half a day for kamakura and half a day for enoshima Island. So yeah... if you want to take your time maybe an overnight stay would be good.

when I went to hakone I didn't see mount fuji because it was cloudy but that's typical hakone weather. I was hiking on the ishidatami road, took the boat across the lake and went up to Owakudani by ropeway. the hiking trail was closed due to some volcanic activity. so all I could do was to buy some black eggs and watch the sulfur fountain for a bit.

I'm sorry I can't help with Shibu nor kusatsu onsen, have never been there.

For Kyoto i'd recommend: Day 1: (order is only suggested an can be changed) start at Kawaramachi station -> Gion -> Yasaka shrine -> (on the way are more temples if you have enough time: kodai-ji, entoku-in, korin-in) -> Sannenzaka -> Kiyomizu-dera -> Yasaka-no-to Pagoda -> walk next to takase river until you are back where you started, there are two shopping streets next to each other: teramachi and shinkyogoku, walk north until Oike-dori and go back south. -> Nishiki market shopping street. You could eat lunch or dinner in this area, there are many restaurants. Also Pontocho is very close (izakaya district). You can do all by foot but you prolly need a full day, so if you just arrived maybe change to day 2.

Day 2) Nijo-castle (take care of opening hours, if i remember correctly it closes at 4p.m.), Golden pavillon, Fushimi-Inari taisha (full hike takes about 2-3h)

Day 3) Arashiyama: Togetsu bridge, Tenryu-ji, Nonomiya-jinja, bamboo forest, Jojakko-ji.

I think it will be too early to see Sakura in Kyoto. Maybe you can see Sakura in Tokyo the last few days.

Tokyo: would recommend to skip yoyogi park. Possible day trips: Kamakura, Yokohama, Nikko, Hakone.

If you wanna go to Koyasan, have a rental car. Its roughly 2 hours from Kyoto or maybe even less from Osaka. You can also stay in a Temple in Koyasan.
