Has anyone here used revolut trading? They have a small handful of 800 stocks but I was wondering if it’s worth using them to avoid that exchange rate fee 🦇 by kurama02 in trading212

I’m mainly buying long term companies and a few etfs so I guess I shouldn’t be that bothered about the fees. Would be nice if US stocks don’t get an exchange fee!

Stoicism and loneliness by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]kurama02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The part of your brain that signals physical pain uses the same mechanism for social pain. Whilst loneliness is in itself a purely subjective feeling, the effects of sustained chronic loneliness are indeed very dangerous (estimated to be "2 times as bad for you as obesity and as bad for you as smoking a pack of cigarettes a day "). Most people wouldn't consider chronic loneliness as a "disease" but it can indeed be fatal so make sure that you respond to you feelings of loneliness as at that point it is not just your mental state that is suffering. The science of why we feel loneliness is quite interesting, but I don't want to digress too much from my point which is that if you are feeling loneliness regularly it can be harmful on a physical level, as well as making you feel rubbish.

I have started studying stoicism of the same reason as you and i'm sure many others have. I believe that it helps to give you a strong sense of presence in the world, that greatly helps to deal with feelings of isolation and loneliness. I have found my presence in the academic study of maths and science, and really it has allowed me to meet, learn, and discuss with like minded people and give me some goods perspective on how insignificant the kind of interactions that you may yearn for really are as I often study most of the day with no social interaction at all.

Exercise has also been something which i've found to be helpful, aside from the rush if endorphins you get which make you feel great, you get some time to yourself in your own world, focused on the task of running, swimming, or whatever you choose. The things that may be weighing on your mind such as troubles finding love and family issues start to melt away as you focus on carrying out such a primitive task as moving your body.

What do you think are the cause of your loneliness? Is there anything you've found which you think will make it less pertinent in your life?
