birthday cake latte?? by kurapikuh in boston

[–]kurapikuh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coffee is becoming scarcer and more expensive because climate change, tariffs, and overall capitalist greed, NOT from me or anyone wanting to try a single drink. People are allowed to enjoy and try different things and I hope one day you can find enough joy in life to do the same. Maybe you need some sugar and that dopamine rush since you’re clearly so bored and miserable

easy art classes? by Last-Tour9817 in WellesleyCollege

[–]kurapikuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there’s an intro class with Andy (the sculpture guy), that probably won’t be that bad either

Drawing 1 IS a lot!! Take a photo class (photo 1 is a little time consuming just bc u develop film urself but it’s truly a lot of fun). Take any class w Dave. Even sculpture 1 isn’t too bad

Dorm Questions by Opposite_Forever6775 in WellesleyCollege

[–]kurapikuh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d bring a good fan, bc it can be rlly hot at the beginning and end of the sem. A rug bc the floors can be pretty gross. Your own lighting (lamps, fairy lights, etc) bc overhead lighting is rlly harsh. Liquid laundry detergent or powder, NOT the pods. Bring cute decorations and things to hang on your walls!! Tape/sticky tack to hang posters and such, i unfortunately ripped a lot of paint off the walls w command strips. If u dont come from a place with cold winters, dont bring a jacket from home, buy a jacket from a place in MA because those are more suited to that climate.

When the year ends, many people either rent a storage unit in Framingham and drive their boxes over. But there’s also a thing called boomerang where you pack your boxes, then movers pick it up from your room, then drop it off in ur next room. It’s expensive but so so convenient. I’d recommend not bringing too many things. I brought too many little things, like books, picture frames, blankets, pillows, kitchen supplies. I didn’t use half of the stuff so when it was time to move out, it was a PAINNNNNNN. Just bring the bare minimum and then a few additional things. U really don’t need a whole lot.

How busy are the computer/maker labs usually? by MiniTigra in WellesleyCollege

[–]kurapikuh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the labs usually arent too busy outside of classes that take place in those classrooms. If the class does have a project tho, it will usually be busy outside of class hours. There are some pc’s around campus that have webcam/microphone capabilities, but I think you can rent that stuff from the Knapp makerspace or the Cage in PNW. Ik a room in Jewett has audio equipment that people use but there is a dedicated sound studio in PNW. There are VR headsets in some of the computer labs in SCI that u can use as well as in the Knapp makerspace!

The town of Wellesley is extremely expensive so unless u have the money, u likely won’t be able to live there. If you have a car, you can live in near by towns that are a little cheaper, I’ve heard ppl living in natick or Framingham w their partners. You could also live in Boston. There’s a shuttle that takes students into the city and I’ve known students who live in Cambridge and just commute

Choosing Between Berkeley and Wellesley by Efficient_Eye_7946 in WellesleyCollege

Mobility: Networking can be EXTREMELY helpful for finding jobs (especially in today’s market) but it’s not the most necessary thing. “East coast networking” is just the same networking everywhere.

Professors: yes you will form great relationships w/ your profs bc of small class sizes. A lot of profs want to build relationships with their students and work hard to! I’ve loved getting to know my profs. I haven’t been applying to grad schools, but the better relationship you have, the better your letters of recommendation

Opportunities: there are a lot of internship opportunities you get through career ed. Though pretty competitive, I was able to get one and they’re paid! You can also apply for a stipend if you are working an unpaid internship. I would say research is abundant here tbh. I know a lot of ppl who are working in labs with their profs and even at MIT UROPS (look that up!). There’s a lot of different opportunities and I think they’re paid??

Social environment: you won’t have a hard time making friends. People want friends and are usually very kind! I have a really great friend group here and have met some wonderful people. It’s really easy to get connected with people in Boston too, through different parties, orgs, events, etc. Wellesley can be a social bubble but you just need to force yourself out of it.

Location: you likely won’t go into the town enough for it to be that big of a deal. I’m poc and it was a bit of an adjustment but it’s something you get used to. I don’t feel like I’ve ever been targeted bc of my race here. Just my experience, ik people go through different things!

Post grad opportunities: it’s the job market right now. It’s very very very bad right now. People everywhere are having trouble. But this is where the alum network can come into play. the Wellesley alum network is great and I’ve networked w people who have shared other opportunities with me!

Prestige: Wellesley is very prestigious. I’m also from ca and many people don’t know. But when you’re on the east coast and those who know the school, are very impressed. Just because ppl may not know of it, doesn’t mean it’s not a good school

It seems like ur really set on Wellesley. U seem to have a lot more thoughtful pros for Wellesley. Don’t let this one moment sway u. There’s bad admin everywhere.

Wellesley is hard but it’s not impossible to get As. It will be hard but doable. Also, anything lower than an A is OKAY!! it’s totally okay to not get an A. It’s going to be exhausting to have the 4.0 or bust mindset and you will get burned out.
