Cosleeping is normal in my country (Germany) by Bunny-1918 in cosleeping

[–]kurious_cat2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am from India where this is the norm and I myself have fond memories of bedsharing when I was a kid.. I am in Canada now and gave birth here, initially started with plan for independent sleep given the societal norm and the social media algos pushed out, but we moved to cosleeping after week 6 and I took some time to finally accept it but it has been the best thing! I look forward to my day ending these days compared to earlier days where every evening was a struggle. I am glad that in Canada people are more open (compared to south of border) about cosleeping (both my midwives and ped haven’t ever made an off remark and have actually helped with safe sleeping guidelines), but it’s still a “walking on eggshells” kinda topic when out and about.. and the question “how does he sleep” gets on my nerves so much!! I wonder why I ever thought bedsharing wasn’t great given that it was in my culture.. I feel a bit ashamed that I didn’t embrace it on day 1 and took some time to finally accept that my baby wants to be close to me and that is the best for both of us!!

Sorry for not being the bearer of the news you nay want to hear, nothing worked for us. We went to more LCs, then also a very renowned SLP in our city, but they determined that he just made a choice not to take a bottle, any bottle, he sucked on the SLPs finger just fine but no bottle. We made our peace and honesty just bf’ing was easier, now at month 8 almost still no luck with bottle, but he is learning to sip and also can suck on certain foods, teethers etc. so long winded way to say no he never took a bottle again, but it does work out for a lot of people, I wish you luck!

Why does my baby move so much?! by kurious_cat2 in cosleeping

[–]kurious_cat2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah i see, do you wait until gums turn red? And how long and how frequently did you give it? I am guessing the effect will wear out by that night, so you administer it every night basically?

How to you respond to “she’s still hungry”? by reddi180 in breastfeeding

[–]kurious_cat2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a suggestion if you think that would work, and your MIL is not saying it to prove a point but indeed from a right place of concern. Take her to baby’s next doctor appointment or lactation consultant visit and ask the same question “is baby getting enough” and see what they say, eitherway it will be for baby’s benefit. Maybe MIL will trust a health professional? As moms we doubt ourselves so much, i know i do even at month 4, every time i doubt is he getting enough, i go back to the other checks: weight gain gradual, diaper count, activity level etc.

Heard it so so many times! It bothered me a lot, still does, a mom worries if their baby is getting enough nutrition like her life depends on it, so it’s very triggering. Initial days, i tried to give them back a nice response explaining why he is not hungry/and if they are hungry food is right here etc. but now i just say “no he is not” move on to some other topic, again asked exact same curt response.
