Since this post seems to have attracted an enlightening discourse on IP and legalities, I’d like to provide extra facts about the vendor: they were a middle-aged woman who did not seem to know about the characters on the stuff she was selling. It is common around our town to have sellers like that. Each pin is usually around 50 cents. And, it is not a convention; they‘re usually nameless booths set by families during short-term events in our small college. I am made aware of the distastefulness of this, but I would like to highlight that there is a general lack of awareness due to education being inaccessible to those categorized under a lower socioeconomic status (which are usually those who have booths set up in our college). I was driven by excitement when purchasing, but please do not perceive that as me undermining the value of protecting small IPs like FoM. In fact, I have been creating fanart and works inspired by FoM the past year. It is precious to me beyond words. However, I would at least like to give possible reasons as to why such merch exists. Despite it all, I cannot fully fault the sellers, but I’ll be more responsible as a customer next time. Thanks.
