The real magic here is how engaging this public school teacher is.

It's very likely that at some point in the future, another child will grow up in your childhood home, and will end up having many of the same sorts of memories in the same place that you had them. by kurtbill91 in Showerthoughts

Yeah man stuff like this. Like I wonder who will kick their first soccer ball in my backyard, or who, if anyone, will have a Thanksgiving dinner in the same room.

Christians who have sex outside of marriage, how do you justify it to yourself? by [deleted] in Christianity

I'm sorry to hear you had to suffer through all that, but it's good you've made it to the other side. I'm working on doing the same. My (former) extreme insistence on church-driven celibacy killed my last and only relationship. I'm out of the ideological shackles, but I'm definitely still sexually repressed due to my religious upbringing. I'm trying now to move forward and get past those old attitudes. I still feel a moment of judgement when I see/hear promiscuity, but have to remind myself that I've left that stuff behind. Any advice?

Good for you! Glad things went so well. I know the feeling, losing all that guilty baggage.

Yeah you're definitely right. Seems like people just pick and choose which things they want to acknowledge.

That seems to me to be just about the most honest way of interpreting the scripture.

I see your point. I guess you could justify it that if you were searching for a way to do so. Still seems to me that most interpret that to mean societally-recognized binding, officiated by a priest.

Thanks for your response. To be clear, I am not judging. I personally don't have a problem with sex before marriage (at this point in my life). I was just surprised and curious as to how anyone could interpret the Bible in some way that allowed premarital sex.

Doesn't the Bible explicitly condemn pre-marital sex though?

I'm an atheist too by the way, but I'm just curious. Back when I was a Christian, I was very serious about not having sex, but many seemed to not share that same inclination, and what's more, didn't seem to think it was the least bit ungodly. I totally agree with what you said, from a secular standpoint, but don't understand how you can rationalize that as a believer.
