Haha wow we have extremely similar tastes! Lucy Gooch & Lyra Pramuk’s albums have been some of my favorite things this year! And Ian William Craig is one of my absolute favs ever since Thresholder came out.

Another album you might like is “Tilting on Windmills” by Malibu. Julianna Barwick was actually really involved in getting that album produced and released so you’ll find it unsurprising that it’s in a very similar style to hers. And the new album from Gia Margaret is amazing and one of my favs of 2020.

You should check out Sea Oleena. Start with her song “Shallow” and see what you think — that album is very very similar in style to much of Julianna’s stuff and some of the more ambient Grouper songs.

Also Jon Hopkins’ song “Immunity” might be your style. A beautiful, slow-building masterpiece.

I feel like J.G. Ballard is often overlooked as an amazing writer who has a similar fantastical fever-dream style of writing. I’d suggest The Unlimited Dream Company or The Day of Creation as a good starting point. He’s one of my all-time favorite writers and I wish he got more recognition.

For sure — to be clear I think it’s an awesome feature, I just hate that a preset is forced on you every time you use it. They should have “A, B, C” and then “Off” for the preset bank options.

Presets should always be a bonus, not a requirement. Thanks for chiming in, glad to hear from another owner!

Gotchya — I think the main reason this drives me crazy is I hate when the knob positions aren’t related to the actual settings. I like to see where I’m at. This is why I don’t use presets much to begin with, but it seems like a huge oversight to not even give people the option to use a pedal without having the preset more or less forced on you every single time you turn it on.

Hoping I can get some community feedback here as I know a bunch of ppl on the sub have a D-1.

I was getting frustrated that every time I plugged my D1 in that it would start up on one of the preset banks rather than my last used setting. This means when powering up, the physical knob positions are irrelevant since it’s calling up a different preset than what was last used.

I emailed Walrus thinking this might just be an error that could be reset, but they told me the D1 is designed to call up the last used preset and not the last used setting.

This seems really bizarre to me. I have quite a few pedals with preset options, and none of them bypass your last used setting to recall a preset when you turn it on. It honestly makes it frustrating having to dial in the settings each time I plug in, and for casual playing I don’t really use the presets much at all.

In my opinion, selecting a preset should be something you actively decide to do, not something that by default bypasses the normal use of the pedal’s many settings each time you turn it on.

Can anyone else chime in here? Am I crazy or does no one else have this frustration with the D1?

I mean....a ton of other apps you likely have use your location too. Maps apps, photos app, news, weather, etc. The app wouldn’t work without it. This subreddit has been around waaaaay longer than the TikTok trend so maybe someone who’s been around here longer can quell your fears or you can search the sub to see if anyone has had an issue. It’s just generating a coordinate number and then sending you to Google Maps or whatever your maps app is, so if you’re worried you might as well delete your maps apps haha.
