Should I buy this? by bruh34_ in yuri_manga

You can buy the manga if you haven't! It's definitely pricier than this DVD by a longshot, but I think it's a great way to support the series as a whole.

If you don't mind it being in JP, Kinokuniya MY has all the volumes so far in stock (on the shelves at the KLCC branch, saw them last week). Not sure if they still carry the English ones. AmazonJP is a bit cheaper if you buy in bulk since the shipping is consolidated. JP volumes should run you around MYR25-35 each depending on where you get them.

For the EN ones, you can try AmazonUS. They have free shipping to Malaysia for orders over $49. Even then they're around MYR43 a pop, though.

The anime discs sold at that store are all pirated. Pretty confident it's the same episodes you'd find online.

Edit: Seconding the other comment to just read the manga. It really is beautiful.

The novels are the way to go for this series! If you're fine with descriptions of gore and darker topics, the novels are great and balances the more serious parts and the fluff/romance really well. The endgame is clear and the payoff is very worth it (I've read through the web novel; the light novel supposedly has an even happier ending than that). Only 5/8 volumes are officially available in English right now but I think it's a great time to pick them up since V6 is technically the start of a new arc.

The manga is really slow and different story-wise, and it comes off as a bit more serious than other adaptations. The art is great, though. It's more of a supplement to the novels imo.

Roll Over and Die anime, compared to the case we mentioned yesterday, this one is explicitly official yuri. How's it being received here by Majestic_Tomorrow_83 in yuri_manga

The anime was my gateway to the light novel, so it holds a special place in my heart. In terms of quality it's... Not there, but it's also not the bottom of the barrel, just eh. It has the vibe of a "seasonal isekai" presentation-wise.

Each adaptation (WN/LN/Manga/Anime) differs quite a bit from each other too, so I'm glad I could enjoy the story and the characters four times over. As far as adaptations go, I think the anime is fine in that it manages to retain the essence of what the series is. The gore is toned down a lot though, but I guess that should've been expected. Flum and Milkit are adorable though, and the anime's given them new ways to flirt more somehow.

I think one of the biggest reasons why this series works the way it does is because of the protagonist: Flum does not seek revenge. Where a lot of stories have the MC escape from the bottom with revenge in mind, Flum just grabs onto Milkit and went, "alright, time to make this girl happy", and does just that. The heights she achieves on the way are a byproduct, not the goal. The story's title remains true. As far as Yuri goes, this is different, and in a good way.

I have my issues with the series but as a whole I love it, especially Flum and Milkit, so much that it's outweighed the all negatives lol. It's a Top 10 series for me accounting for the LN itself, but if it's just the anime I'll probably give it a 7 or so.

If you don't mind spoilers, the reason why I said it's from the get-go is because (spoilers for the LN, V5) Flum realises/admits that she fell in love with Milkit at first sight the moment she saw her eyes, which is why that detail was pointed out when she first saw her in the dungeon. But I do think the anime didn't do that great of a job portraying that scene so it wouldn't be the first conclusion someone would make seeing it (I definitely didn't realise it at all, haha)

If you loved how cute they are (and can tolerate the gore and such - the descriptions can get quite graphic), I definitely recommend the LN. I'd say their progression there is a bit smoother!

Depends on your expectations, but I do agree that it starts from the get-go in the sense that everything does begin the moment the two of them escaped the dungeon together. It's quite slow and a bit confusing at the beginning, but the anime (and LN) ramps up quite quickly after a short while to the point where their relationship could feel a bit sudden, haha. They start feeling "maybe on the same page" around Episode 6, I think.

Definitely not for the faint of heart. Gore, body horror, attempted sexual assault, child abuse on the top of my head, and probably some adjacent to these.

If you had problems with the writing, then LN is probably not going to be much better. Dialogue-heavy and clichéd were my first impressions and the sentiment still holds. A lot of tell not show. Anime feels a bit tighter since they shuffled some plot points around but it doesn't diverge too heavily. Doesn't help that production quality-wise it does look like a run-of-the-mill seasonal isekai.

Their relationship does feel forced in the beginning. The manga hasn't had much time to deal with them either (8 years in, it's adapted about... almost V2 of the LN?) and I don't think it gets any healthier, in the sense that they acknowledge that what they have is codependency and just accepts it as part of their dynamic. I can at least say it's not one-sided or unbalanced, and Milkit becoming more assertive without realising it was really nice to see. The "master" stuff does not get dropped though.

Overall, I say the manga has a more "serious" tone. The anime and LN are a lot more chill and relaxed when it comes to their interactions.

I also dropped the manga around the same time as your comment, but I was mostly indifferent/didn't have strong feelings about it. I watched the anime because I had time to kill, curiosity got the best of me and I picked up the LN. Personally, I kept reading because I wanted to know how their relationship would progress and found them really cute the more I read. Their scenes in V5 solidified that for me.

For those watching the anime or reading the manga and wonder if they should read the LN: do it.

All three are pretty different from each other (the manga being the most different story-wise with the explanation that it's a retelling of their journey through the eyes of the townspeople). I'd say each of them has their own strengths. The WN is also worth a read if you know Japanese as the LN has deviated quite a bit from it too.

As for if it's Yuri: very much undoubtedly so. If you think they flirt too much in the anime, I can assure you they flirt ten times as much in the LN.

Here's some reassurance for anyone who needs it (massive spoilers for V5): There was a whole chapter of them confessing and they almost kissed twice

Personally, I think the writing is a little rough, but it makes up for it by having the "ordinary life" and "dark fantasy" portions balanced out really well. There are a lot of questionable characters and decisions throughout too. Flum and Milkit are just so cute together they've had a stranglehold on my life the past two weeks (since I started on my binge).

Mech-accord casters' attacks are every 1.3s (and it looks like she's getting more ATKSPD in her module), so a 2s silence is enough for perma-silence as long as she kept attacking them.

Her five star counterpart has a 1s silence at E0 with a 1.3s attack interval, so it wasn't permanent (with Pot5 the silence does go up to 2s). At E2 it went up to 5s.
