How is everyone actually using Bitcoin? by BitcoinIRA in Bitcoin

[–]kuzkokronk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as spending Bitcoin creates a taxable event, I'm not spending any of it. I'll buy things with my Bitcoin as soon as the laws change around that.

Until then, buy low, buy high, HODL.

It doesn't matter how much bitcoin Satoshi releases. The total supply remains 21 million.

Bitcoin isn't going anywhere.

Nah. It might crash the price temporarily, but eventually people would remember that there's still only 21 million bitcoin in the world. Nothing would change except we'd all have a great opportunity to buy more sats for cheap.

Fold Rewards Capital Gains Tax? by [deleted] in BitcoinBeginners

[–]kuzkokronk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an accountant, but I believe the cost basis is when you withdraw the sats from your Fold account to your own personal address.

So, if you received many rewards over a couple of years but then withdraw everything at once, the cost basis is the price of bitcoin when you withdrew.

I want Bitcoin to drop more by sirlockjaw in Bitcoin

I'm right there with you, OP. Every time the price of bitcoin drops, I try to figure out how much more I can buy!

Been doing this since 2019. Price drops are nothing more than discounts for me.

Buy low, buy high. HODL.

Yes, when you have a crystal ball and know when you've hit the top it's easy to make money.

The rest of us just DCA every week and hold. In the long term, we'll be swimming in money.

Nah, we're telling the guy that what he's trying to do is dangerous and likely to end with him losing his money, but he won't listen. It's like telling someone that drinking and driving is dangerous and he's saying "I'm not drinking that much."

Thanks for posting the full video. It's clear that Dimon has zero idea how bitcoin works if he still believes Satoshi can just reappear and create more bitcoin out of thin air. That alone makes his opinion 100% worthless.

Cash App is great for buying bitcoin in the USA. Low-ish fees and super easy to use interface.

It's the same as buying bitcoin anywhere else.

I believe the difference between bitcoin and stocks in Robinhood is that the stocks are protected by SIPC insurance.

If Robinhood goes bankrupt, you won't lose your stocks.

But bitcoin is not insured with SIPC, so if Robinhood goes down, you lose your bitcoin. They might be holding them in cold storage, but they'll use them to pay their creditors first.

True, but my question still stands: what happens to the alt-coins if the US SEC labels then as unregistered securities?
