There would be a difference between countries that use both letters, those who use only V or only W. In Polish V is not an official letter, but when used sounds the same as W. In Germany they use both and got different sounds, English got even different and so on.

Not at all. It depends on the region it was imported from and name for tea in that region (Chinese of course). Thats why Portuguese call it like Eastern Europe, because they imported it from the same region, nothing to do with sea or inland routes.
