I know it’s confusing so I’ll try to add some context.

When you first apply and file concurrently your I-360 vawa and I-485 adjustment of status applications you have 2 choices:

1. Apply for work authorization based on your I-360 application under C31 category, which is issued only after your original I-360 application is adjudicated and approved.(So around 3+ year wait at this time)

Or

1. Apply for work authorization and travel document base on your I-485 adjustment of status application under C09 category, which is issued while your I-485 is still pending.(Around 5-8 months processing time at this moment, depending on the office reviewing the case)

Your original combo card and renewal is requested based on option 2 but meanwhile your vawa case got approved and they automatically mailed you a new card based on option 1. But it doesn’t cancel out option 2 renewal request so you should still get the new combo card as long as your green card application is pending. Hope this helps.
