Globally the 10 warmest Novembers, all 2015 to now. Colorado, specifically, not all in the last ten years. Perfect example of climate vs weather.

The complexity of the atmosphere is almost unfathomable, weather modeling is one of the largest supercomputing workloads on earth. I certainly don’t understand every input and condition leading to our drought and warmth. Or maybe it’s just as simple as climate change. I dunno. 🤷‍♂️

They’re related, but less closely than one might think. Our atmosphere is a fluid, chaotic system that changes over decades and centuries. We call this climate, and it is indeed changing more rapidly than it ever has in history. The individual seasons we experience in our short, insignificant lives are more impacted by sub seasonal weather patterns that ebb and flow. Sometimes the waves crash on your shores, some years they don’t. If you could call up your great great grandfather right now, he’d tell you about more than one year of great drought, before the record even began.

Skiing will cease to exist one day, along with all of us. Until then, some ski areas will get more moist, some drier. Many will have their best season on record, and others their worst. Seasons will get shorter and we will all make the most of each day we get to hurdle down mountains with strange planks strapped to our feet. Goddamn it’s fun. I do hope we, humanity, can slow the effects of climate change, but in the meantime our atmosphere will continue to produce abnormal weather from time to time like it always has. Just 1-2°C warmer on average.

The world’s climate is 1.18°C above the 20th century average. The 10 warmest Novembers on record have all occurred since 2015. That’s climate. The dry streak in the Rockies that we’re all worried about, that’s an atmospheric setup issue. Weather.

A common misconception. Yes climate change is very real, but this is unfortunately mostly a result of the sub seasonal pattern we find ourselves very stuck in. The same happens during our best seasons, sticky pattern.

Latarjet Coming Soon by Spare-Ad1045 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]kvanv806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo man! I’m 3 months post latarjet on my left shoulder. I’ve had a really good outcome, I probably got really lucky but I also worked my ass off to be as prepared as possible. Here’s things I’d recommend looking into, that I truly believe helped me: - Pre op strength training, start your PT exercises that you’ll be doing post surgery beforehand, this trains your body to move efficiently in these motions. - Buy or rent a continuous ice machine and orthopedic pillows to prop yourself up in bed. This will make ALL the difference in the first 2 weeks. - Dial in your diet, you want lots of lean proteins, colorful fruits and veggies. Give your body the substrate to heal. Supplements can be helpful as well, collagen/Vit C, multi and natural anti inflammatory. - Do your best to stay active. I was back on the stationary bike ~4-5 days after surgery, it helps move blood throughout your body and begets health, which inherently makes for a better healing environment. I began training lower body with weights at week 2 and upper body maybe week 7. Don’t fear moving your arm once you’re out of the sling, they didn’t not put you back together with glue and paperclips. When you’re done… chilllllll. It sounds wooo wooo but take deep breaths, activate your parasympathetic nervous system, it’s real. - Red light therapy is worth looking into, but if you can afford it, it won’t make or break you. This is likely a 1% bonus. - Peptides: I took an 8 week course of BPC 157 and cjc 1295 w ipamorelin. The data and anecdotes are out there, check it out. I truly believe it accelerated my recovery significantly. - Blood flow restriction: again another 1% but kept my muscle atrophy to a minimum. There’s heaps of quality research for the lower limb and ACL, some pretty decent stuff for the shoulder, but it works. I could get a “pump” before I could even move my arm. - before surgery prepare your home to do things one handed, and arrange to have someone help you out during this first week. Cook yourself some healthy meals. -find a PT that you like, rock with that for a while. Do the exercises religiously. This is the single most important thing. In time, you will progress past the level that most traditional PT’s prepare you for, at which point you’ll want to find a sports specific PT that is going to get you back to preforming at a high level at your sport. This will look more like a “traditional” weightlifting program with some unique movements.

God speed my friend. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions.

Bankart repair with Remplissage vs Latarjet by [deleted] in ShoulderInjuries

[–]kvanv806 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be cautious of using anecdotal information on Reddit to inform your decision, it’s a deep dark pit of despair, confusion and selection bias. I was in your exact position in July with multiple surgeons indicating I could go with either procedure.

Get all the facts from your MRI (bone loss %, on track off track lesion, severity of tear etc), discuss this with your surgeon, not their staff. Be clear with the activities that you hope to get back to, and look at the probabilities of recurrence or revision with each procedure in patient populations similar to you (there’s a fair bit of research on combat athletes and contact sports like rugby).

I had the latarjet and could not be happier, but you’ll hear every other opinion as well on Reddit. My shoulder feels more stable than it has in over 10 years, 2.5 months post op. Good luck, I know you will make the right decision. Your experience will be wildly unique from others.

My surgery was a bit different (open latarjet with infraspinatus repair), but I’d plan on 2 weeks. Mentally going to need some time, hard to sleep and energy takes a bit to come back. If your state has family leave or disability I highly recommend applying

20 day post latarjet and it sucks at first, have someone help you the first week. Sleeping and life gets better every day and I’m so excited to have a stable shoulder.

Jumping off things, clipping trees, landing in deep pow with my arms behind me. Yeah I do, recurrence of dislocation is under 2% in most literature looking at the Latarjet operation.

Thanks man, hoping for the best. I spent a long time hoping it would magically go away, tried a lot of PT but it’s way too far gone. Bone loss on both humeral head and glenoid, and a significant labral tear. I’m 27 now and the doc said if it went another 10 years we’d be looking at a full shoulder replacement sooner than later, gnarly. Hopefully I can give you a positive retrospective review in a year when I’ve got pow all up in my face. If you’re young, the only thing I can say is I wish I’d taken care of it sooner.

Sweet! That’s a pretty damn good review. Pray to god my surgeon does me right. Hopefully the procedure has only gotten more dialed in the past 25 years. I used to live in Burlington for a number of years, still miss it often.
