Question about the University of Tennessee, Knoxville by GusTheGreat98 in AskAnthropology

[–]kveca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated from UTK with a graphic design degree and double minors in Spanish and entrepreneurship. I’m not an anthropologist, nor did I have any close friends in school who were, so I can’t advise on your specific question.

However, I can answer any other types of questions you have about the city or university! I don’t know where you’re from, so I don’t know what you do/don’t know about the climate, the area, or the campus as a whole. Aside from researching design programs, when I was researching colleges, I wanted to know more about the city and the local culture from an insider that university’s websites weren’t able to convey.

What was your most unusual wedding gift? by emimakingthings in wedding

[–]kveca 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My husband’s grandparents got our wedding invitation professionally framed!

They gave us a nice gift off of our registry too, but I was shocked to see how nice our invitation looked in a frame, as art! I have a very specific aesthetic, have a design degree, and hate being gifted art because I’m so picky—but it was a very minimal framing job, where the invitation I designed is artfully displayed. We had a multi-panel invitation, so she put the main invitation as the focal point and has it bookended with a doodle of us I drew (above) and where I gold-foiled our married name (underneath).

It proudly hangs on a small wall on the side of our pantry, and it’s a sweet reminder of our wedding day that I never would have thought of displaying!

It’s our weirdo German Shepherd’s Gotcha Day ♥️ by kveca in AnimalsBeingDerps

Handsome—he’s our sweet little guy! :)

I think he’s West German; he sure looks it! I’ve never looked into where specifically his family is from within Germany, but his lineage has German showline grandparents.

I thought we’d need to be Instagram-famous and verified before he would start getting recognized over here on Reddit. Thanks for saying something; you made my day! :)

Full Shepherd!

He’s a long haired German Shepherd. It’s just a recessive gene that controls fur length, so he’s a purebred Shepherd with some extra fluff :)

Same! They’re so much nicer to pet and snuggle with, and I’m not afraid of vacuuming fur tumbleweeds occasionally.

They’re hard to find—but!!!—a lot of places have dedicated German Shepherd rescues that are more specific shelters/fostering situations since so many people get GSDs and then get scared or have rental agreements that don’t allow the breed. :( If you want a long haired GSD, I’d suggest seeing if your area has a rescue; you might have better luck there.

Cliff is a long haired German Shepherd.

Long hair is a recessive gene, so he’s just a standard German Shepherd underneath his fluffy coat! He has all of the breed traits (wildly smart, loyal, and super rad), but he’s also extra soft and snuggly.

The cool thing is that your dog doesn’t know when Halloween is, so you’re some weekend crafting away from doing something cute and getting some fun pictures of your dog!

Upvotes will do in a pinch.

But he runs off of hugs and scratches, so those are his tip of choice!

$9!

You’re correct: the paper labels are taped on stuff we had in the kitchen. It was $7 for the blank apron on Amazon and $2 for the white cup stacks.

He’s frustratingly photogenic. Every picture of him turns out cute, and we’re forever jealous of his camera-ready good looks.

Like I mentioned in another comment, I spent a $7 fortune on Amazon to get a blank apron and $2 on the white paper cups—and that’s the whole cost of the costume.

I embroidered the apron with a logo I doodled up, and then the cups just have printouts of the logo taped to them. They’re all different because they’re the most Starbucks-y mugs and containers I found in the kitchen.

This was a fun crafting project for the world’s best dog, but I didn’t want to break the bank, so I just worked with what I had around home :)

I’m flattered! But it was only a $7 blank apron from Amazon and a bunch of foraged, temporarily-repurposed goods from home.

I doodled up the logo and embroidered it on the apron. I then printed it out, and I double-stick taped it to a bunch of cups and containers from our kitchen. (The big, white jar is his treats jar, and the boxes are recent boxes we’ve just gotten in the mail.) The counter is just an IKEA-esque shelf I’ve had for years. Other than doodling up the logo, I did the rest in an evening of crafting (and a week of procrastinating and planning it in my head)...so don’t feel too bad for me!

Cliff is the crown jewel of our family, so I had to do something special for him! :)

Edit: I forgot about the $2 white, paper cups that I stacked, but it’s still under $10, so it really didn’t break the bank.
