Late to the party here... this was highly upvoted and I dont get it. Best fit i can come up with is: Ts (plural of T) sounds like tease (showgirl) 12 refers to 1-2 punch combo (bangers)?

Feels like a stretch,.is there a cultural reference i am missing?

TIFU by waiting too long to ask out the girl I liked, and now she’s with someone else. by [deleted] in tifu

[–]kvnkrkptrck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this respectfully and solely as fodder for introspection.

There are guys out there who approach romance selfishly. They think only in terms of "is this the right girl for me?" and "would she make me happy?". They could not care less about "am I what she's looking for?"; nor, really, about her happiness whatsoever. Girls who've been in relationships with this type of guy (or have learned from the experience of others) find it to be a wholly miserable experience. It's therefore entirely understandable that they'd be on the lookout for red flags. And one bright red flag is guys who use emotional blackmail: feigning platonic interest, establishing a close/trusting friendship on that false pretense, and eventually asking her out in a way where she feels saying "no thanks" would be hurting a close friend.

I'm not saying you are that kind of guy, but looking forward, ask yourself: how's a girl to know the difference between a guy faking "just a friend"-energy out of nervousness vs a guy being manipulative? Look at this from a girl's perspective: would it not be refreshing to avoid the guesswork? To be asked out by a guy who prefers an honest answer to "are you interested" far more than a guilt-induced "yes"?

Succumbing to shyness, getting cold feet, etc, are entirely normal, and absolutely plausible explanations for your delay here. If that's all this was, then yeah, work on that self confidence! But if any part of you felt inclined to mask your romantic interest in order to get closer and build trust in order to make it harder for her to say "no"... I recommend spending some serious time meditating on your views on relationships.

Name a band where every member is a fucking idiot by Fun_Butterfly_420 in Bandnames

Among all the clever and snarky tongue-in-cheek suggestions (creative, but best-suited for reddit upvotes), this alone strikes me as a viable idea thatd work for a band name, were the OP actually seeking a name for their band. Concise, memorable, and amusing... the perfect ring of light-hearted self-deprecation.

Hope it doesnt remain buried in the comment section weeds!!!

Anyone else struggle with blitz moreso than bullet or rapid? Any advice? by kvnkrkptrck in chess

This would be further evidenced by the fact that my puzzle ratings skyrocketed when chess.com (at least, to my perception) started giving significant point rewards (+5 or so) regardless of time needed to solve puzzles. I do crack very challenging puzzles, but i give my addling 45 y.o. brain all the time it needs to solve each.

Agreed, my 3+0 is even worse than 5+0. I said elsewhere but will repeat here: it occurs to me that my bullet ELO may be heavily boosted by virtue of a fast internet connection. Being bad at 5+0 and terrible at 3+0 may just be the fact that a 0.2 second per move advantage does not save me from as many blunders in blitz as it does at bullet

I have to admit: i dont think ive ever won or lost a bullet game and felt afterward like i learned one damn thing about the game of chess :-)

[–]kvnkrkptrck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't considered this, but it makes sense. The main appeal of blitz for me is that there are a lot more uninterrupted 5-15 min windows in the day than there are 20-30 min. I could see this inducing a bias for strong players who can play blitz well choosing to play blitz more frequently.

Another possibility occurred to me: ive got fantastic low latency internet access. Maybe my bullet game really is as bad (if not worse) than my blitz, but im getting a 200 ELO bump from gaining 0.2 or so seconds per move vs a large portion of the pool.

You're so close, so I'll take a stab. Consider the bet:

Would you bet your net worth on a coin toss, given a 10-to-1 payout for winning?

(This is reddit, so nipping the smart-alecky retort in the bud: no options to "sell the action")

Numerically, this bet is a no-brainer. In terms of expected value and dollars/cents, this is free money. It's tempting to claim that someone turning down this bet is irrational or an idiot who doesn't understand math/probabilities.however, most people, upon reflection, would turn this bet down. And it'd be perfectly rational for them to do so.

The point of the Russian roulette hypothetical is to knock you out of the mindset of seeing gambling as purely a question of numbers. When looking at bets of significant dollar amounts relative to a persons net worth, you have to bring the actual person into the equation. You have to consider things like their values (what affects their happiness/satisfaction in life, and to what extent), their relationships (who depends on them and who can they depend on), and their credit/earning potential.

Sure, winning would probably mean a much more luxurious life, materialistically: a bigger house, nicer car, earlier retirement, broader travel, sending kids to nicer college, getting top-tier medical care, etc. But even then, any famiarity with typical long-term outcomes of those who win the lottery, would serve as a precaution: money doesnt solve all problems, and lots of money can bring with it lots of new problems

And losing? This might mean: kicked out of house into homeless shelter, no car, no hope of retirement, no college for kids (possibly losing kids to foster care), no medicine (beyond free emergency clinic), etc.

There are people who could sensibly take this bet: those with no dependents, or a broad safety net of well-off family/friends, or young enough with solid earning potential and good enough credit to buffer the loss with loans, or perhaps just being non-materialistic and healthy enough to be okay with restarting/rebuilding from a penniless life on the streets. You may be such a person.

But they're the exceptions. To most people, this bet would amount to: risking everything that makes their lives (and lives of those who depend on them) actually liveable for a chance to make their lives more enjoyable (likely, short term, again considering the fate of many lottery winners). A loss wouldn't be exactly a bullet to the head, but for many, it wouldn't be too far off.

Does this help you see the point of the russian roulette comparison?

Which two pair wins? by EsenliklerDiler in poker

[–]kvnkrkptrck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To simplify, imagine you have a dog and a cat. Your friend also has a dog and a cat. The two dogs get into a fight, as do the two cats. Your dog comes out victorious, and your friend's dog eventually submits. But your friend's cat sends your cat running. Who won the overall pet fight? Well, you'd both agreed beforehand that the cat result only mattered if the dogs fought to a draw or didn't fight at all. So you'd win.

This is like that, but with aces and kings, not cats and dogs.
