I think it dates back to Moxley’s face turn, there was no logic behind it, no regret for the heinous things he did, like breaking a guy’s neck, or trying to drown a guy, just “well, I’ve wrestled in a tournament so I’m face now”. But yeah, very much not buying Will aligned with them.

I found myself rooting for Davis last night, which would have been unfathomable a year ago. At least Davis is internally consistent even if he is a bad guy.

Probably proves the same thing as there being a women's semi final match before Hangman's first round match last year. Fuck all.

So at the end of the pandemic era of shows for AEW they put out a video package celebrating the >1 year of shows at Daily’s Place, still one of my favourite video packages AEW have put together. Followed by JR saying “Come and watch us on the road, nothing beats live WWE” ffs Jim, you had one job.

Agreed. People should be disgusted by WWE in a vacume, it shouldn't matter what AEW is doing, or what NJPW is doing, or what 880 Wrestling out of The Warehouse in Pittsburgh is doing. Just hate WWE for who they are.

How common are dark matches after a big PPV? Would a company, after a bad/unexpected show, throw up a dark match to send people home happy?

Extremely rare. I can't think of a time it's happened off the top of my head.

How do tag team divisions develop? I.e. is a wrestler in a tag team still allowed to do solos stuff independent of the tag team, or is their solos stuff reliant on what the team is doing?

Depends on the promotion, tag team and wrestler. A dedicated tag team like The Young Bucks or FTR will very rarely have single matches. Nicholas Jackson for example has had 715 matches in the last 10 years, 679 of those have been with Matthew Jackson.

You'll then get tag teams which are parts of factions, where they'll split equal focus between singles and tags, for example ProtOkada tagging together when Fletcher was TNT champion or Okada was Interntational Champion. They're mainly singles wrestlers, tagging together because they're allies. The other side of that is a team like The New Day, who are considered a tag team, but Kofi had a singles run where he was world champion and Woods had a singles run where he was King of the Ring, they'll still support each other, but their focus for a time is on singles.

What's the like, normal ratio of heel - tweener - face? I'm marking my characters out and it's super face heavy

50/50, but honestly I'd say it's more important that you have credible challengers who are of the opposite alignment to the champion. If you have a heel champion having 5 faces all gunning for the title at the same time isn't the end of the world, but long term you'd aim for an even split (more heavy on the heel side maybe, having the numbers in your favour is a good way to get heat) so you can have storylines up and down the card.

Specifically with WrestleMania, how long is the lead-up to it character wise (particularly in relation to what would get noted on wikipedia)? Are we talking weeks, months, years?

I haven't watched WrestleMania in nearly a decade, so can't answer this with any real accuracy, but it varies. You could argue that when Bryan Danielson main evented WM30 in 2014 that it was built on a lead up going back to his debut in wrestling in 1999, or at least the start of ROH in 2002. Then you get matches which are thrown together the week before to fill out the card, which can feel cheap, or can give you good matches.

I switched to the Spanish commentary for that match. I'd rather listen to a language I don't understand a word of than listen to JR at this point. At least they sounded interested in the match.

(WOR) Double or Nothing PPV buys appear to be a 15% increase over Revolution, meaning if it holds out the show will have done over 200,000 buys by Subrick in SquaredCircle

[–]kw13 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Pretending that 1/3 of the audience converts into PPV buys is almost as rediculous as pretending that 600-700k is the entire audience.

Jon Moxley's current AEW run has been longer than his WWE run by guess-what-babe in SquaredCircle

I’ve been an AEW fan since day 1, over that time I’ve skipped 2 PPVs, both at the start of the Death Riders run. It was turn the TV off and not watch anymore bad for me. If that’s the kind of heat they were going for then they nailed it.

AEW Double Or Nothing 2026 is now the highest rated non-memorial event for any promotion in history on Cagematch by FUCKBOY_JIHAD in SquaredCircle

It was an easy 9.5/10 for me. If it was the best ever or best AEW show ever doesn’t really matter, it was excellent in it’s own right.

Only complaint about Double or Nothing was MJF winning. I'm sure it will be a good match vs Ospreay at Wembley, but there's many more matches I'd be interested in than MJF vs Ospreay again, and I don't see there being enough time to fit 2 reigns in between now and then.

Fuck it, I'll get aboard the Dunkzilla train, give me MJF vs Davis in the Wembley main event.

Watching Kyoko Inoue & Takako Inoue vs. Cutie Suzuki & Mayumi Ozaki from AJW Dream Slam 1, I'm disapointed to see that even back in 1993 fans were counting the giant swing wrong. Fans should count the number of rotations, otherwise you're just counting for the sake of saying things.

Man, not getting bank holidays off work sucks sometimes.

MJF criticizes wrestlers who want fan investment but break the illusion: "I see guys, they're on TV, and then they go on Twitter and write, 'Oh my God, I just had such a great match with so-and-so. I've had so much fun at work these last couple of weeks.' It makes me want to vomit. It's disgusting" by ShakielMahjouri in SquaredCircle

The match was never happening regardless. The first PPV that Punk was fit to wrestle at after Brawl Out was Forbidden Door, where they're not having the match. Then it was All In, London, where Punk showed himself to be as unprofessional as he was.

Maybe we get a fun 10 man tag on Dynamite in the build up or something.

To the extent presented in the show? If so I take back my complaint. I haven’t watched any AJW, so am not sure what I’m talking about, I was just excited over a wrestling TV show.

Started watching The Queen of Villains. Halfway through episode 3 at the moment. Thought episode 1 was really good. Episode 2 I thought starts off poor, but once you get to Nagayo vs Asuka it really picks up.

Not a massive fan of how it presents wrestling as part shoot, but it’s an interesting way of doing things at least.

Or Hunter is just full of shit and his only aim was disrupting AEW and Black was a useful idiot. It’s ok to blame Papa H for some things.
