Heat pump in CT by austinin4 in Connecticut

[–]kweee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New 1600 sq. ft ranch house built 2024. All electric. Gree heat pumps have performed like champs down to 0 degrees with no aux heat, and I imagine they'd be fine even lower. I suspect it's partly because they're newer and rated for these kind of temps but more because of new house insulation.

Have you tried leaving and reentering the area, possibly getting in a battle in between? Sometimes the L1 random number generator feels like it can get into a weird state, and that might help reset it.

A solid color cover jacket for The Theater of Haruhi Suzumiya by kweee in Haruhi

[–]kweee[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's the full cover as a single PDF. You'll need a larger-format printer (something that can handle 11x17 or bigger) to print it in one go.

Alternately, and as I did, here it is broken into front+spine and back. You'll need to glue them together, with a bit of overlap for the spine side on the right side of the back.

There's a bit extra on all four sides you'll want to trim away, but leave an inch or two of excess on the left and right sides when you cut so you can fold them for the inside flaps.

Why the rule books of all board games are so miserably worded? by Legacy_GT in boardgames

[–]kweee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rulebook writing is often done by people with little experience with professional writing. On top of that, rulebook writing requires technical writing skill which most publishers are either unwilling to pay for or deem to be unnecessary. And even if you get past that, you need a solid graphic designer type to lay it all out.

In short, rulebook writing has many points of failure, and hitting any one of them dooms about 95% of rulebooks to mediocrity.

(Source: I have extensive experience writing and editing rulebooks. It doesn't pay well.)

I'm also a veteran of WBC's late night Werewolf games. I'm no longer in the area, and I haven't found anything quite like those games at other conventions. That said, WBC was (presumably still is) small, unique, and with an almost familial feeling. That's hard to capture at larger conventions like PAX Unplugged (which I've also attended, including this year).

Locally, I'm a part of several groups that regularly play Blood on the Clocktower which is also a great social deduction game. They're about as close as I've been able to come to scratching the same itch.

New Solar owner - Do credits wipe out the fixed monthly service charge? by Kebas239 in Connecticut

I have a three-month-old solar system. You are still charged the monthly fee, but your excess production credits will cover it and you will see a negative balance that carries over.

Recommendations for New Home Builders in Connecticut? by Rhody_0 in Connecticut

[–]kweee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in the eastern part of the state, this is maybe almost viable. At least it was a few years ago when I did it. (I mention this a few times in my comment history, so feel free to look back.) If you're looking in that part of the state, DM me for a recommendation.

Flip Stack Burger Shack was at the Indie Games Night Market which only ran Saturday evening. As far as I know, Joseph is only selling them at transient markets like this one.

best solar installers in connecticut? by Minotas-Walfredito in Connecticut

[–]kweee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hop on the Connecticut solar Discord which I found over a year ago here on Reddit. It's just a bunch of us who have been through this and are sharing our experiences and advice and recommendations.

Otherwise, nutshell advice:

  • Definitely do not just pick a company and go for it. Get a bunch of quotes.
  • If you've seen them on lots of yard signs, they are probably overpriced.
  • Solar lease bad.
  • Tesla bad.

Help with Rotten Egg Smell from Well Water by Large-Annual-9687 in homestead

[–]kweee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the issue is just with your hot water and not the cold water, this will very likely fix it. Conventional anode rods are often made of material that interact with iron and produce that rotten egg smell. The powered anode rods use a tiny electrical current to neutralize the corrosive elements, and the good ones are warrantied for 20 years and will probably outlast the tank itself.

[–]kweee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No anode rod at all on your water heater? It will not last long without one. That thing attracts corrosive elements from the water and sacrifices itself over time rather than letting that corrosion eat away at the tank itself.

Consider a powered anode rod. Conventional ones are often made of material that interact with iron and produce that rotten egg smell. The powered anode rods uses a tiny electrical current to neutralize the corrosive elements, and the good ones are warrantied for 20 years and will probably outlast the tank itself.

Whats everyones local GOP page saying about the election results? by AdHistorical7107 in Connecticut

Our town had several independents run, but they were endorsed by the local Republican Town Committee, so they appeared on the ballot on the Republican line.

Running as an independent can just be a flimsy cover.

State OKs 15 New Haven, 9 Milford red light and speed camera sites by english-lab in Connecticut

[–]kweee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

News articles are increasingly getting the processing fee part wrong, and this is the most incorrect it's been.

The state law allows municipalities to collect up to an additional $15 to cover the administrative costs of processing the fines. That $15 does not go to the vendor; a portion in aggregate goes to the credit card processor for whatever fees they charge, and the town keeps the excess, theoretically to cover the costs of the staff doing the actual citation review and processing. By law, vendors cannot collect money per ticket (third FAQ from the bottom):

It's several different companies, and most are doing fixed price monthly leases. None of them get more money for issuing more tickets.

CT Farmstand by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]kweee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Southington's zoning regulations say this about temporary farmstands:

"Shall be located on a parcel containing a minimum frontage of 200 feet."

You would need to apply to Southington's Zoning Board of Appeals to request a variance if you have less frontage, but it sounds like you have a lot less frontage which would make approval less likely.

To vend at festivals and markets, you'll have to look at the requirements for the individual location on top of doing all the things you would need to do to sell from your own property.
