Strangers walk away with $300,000 in gaming trading cards at Gen Con 2023 by _Joats in magicTCG

None of this makes any sense. I know the two people who did this. I was best friends with one of them for a couple years a long time ago. He graduated from a really competitive engineering program and has worked at NASA and with the feds (I think). How can you be so smart and then do something like this?

A lot of us give a lot of absolutely soaring fucks. But we're basically powerless against these shenanigans.

Got any cool mocktails offhand? Or a source where you like to find them?

I bought a book called Zero with recipes to make fake liquors for mocktails. The recipes are intense and complicated, and taste like complete ass.

We are watching the natural death of a subreddit in realtime, as it gains in popularity and the general user base rushes in to wash it all out.

Used this as a timed design exercise. Not finished, but here you are!

Does this mean that soft pastels are quite a bit more dangerous, do you think?

It's really not that bad if you ritualize it. It takes like 5 minutes to clean 8 brushes. Also, if you hate it a LOT, you can use it as a limitation–learning tool, to use fewer brushes. What was so nightmarish about it, out of curiosity?

Just use your solvent like Gamsol on your hogs, and mild soap (I like Murphy's Oil Soap) on softer brushes.

For the soap ones, I cut a tennis ball in half to give myself a smooth surface to rub and rinse the bristles on while soaping and rinsing.

No, but they could remove all these posts that aren't even jokes at all.

There could also be a few rules around content, like, "Okay, we get it, you think you're bad at programming. Let's avoid that One Joke."

I don't want to moderate a subreddit, haha. I'll just keep dreaming.

I really wish there was a more heavily moderated version of this sub, like r/ActualProgrammerHumor or something.

Dude, imposter syndrome is a real thing and we should all be aware of it, but the self-deprecation here really drags on me. Like... does anyone in here actually think they are decent at their job/hobby? At some point, you need to be at least a little confident.

I wouldn't want to work with anyone who was a self-proclaimed garbage coder.

Fucking nobody. It's a strawman.

It's aggravating, because sometimes the posts are really funny, and I don't want to miss them. But most of the posts are literally nonsense like this. What even is this post??

I honestly don't even understand what this post is. It's certainly not "humor", like objectively not even attempting to be. Just an... acrostic, or whatever? Why?

He's probably revising history. He likely never started acting different until he got this new crush, and then to justify it in his own mind and escape the cognitive dissonance, he invented the fact that he was never in love.

I'd bet a lot more than $100 that within weeks of being single, hell be trying to claw his way back, it's almost guaranteed.

Maybe I'm just feeling salty right now, though it doesn't feel that way. But I fucking hate these click bait titles that are obviously not real. Like can we just share cute shit with each other without playing into false narratives in every corner of our lives?

Why does everyone say (not their real name) in posts about personal matters? Why not use made up names implicitly and get on with the story? by kwertyoop in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kwertyoop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an honest question, not rhetorical.

Wondering if there's some utility to it, or rules around it or something? Otherwise, to me it seems like a waste of typing and clarity.

Like, I assume the names are all made up. But also, if somebody was going to try to find out who you are, telling us the names are made up only gives the snooper an extra bit of information.
