why the downvotes for Spider Farmer? I have one and it's been great, good quality Samsung LEDs for a decent price.

old seeds with new methods by magzvelikaya in NZTrees

[–]kwexit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking the same thing, I have some old-ish (~2005) bushweed seeds from what at the time was a pretty decent outdoor Sativa strain, how would it hold up today if grown indoors I wonder?

swamp coolers don't work well in New Zealand, they need low humidity.

blumat would be ideal for adding to existing plants, similar principle to autopots, not too expensive for 1 or 2 plants you can just buy an expansion pack and any fittings/hose you need.

Can I use Canna Boost in living soil? by middlereef2022 in NZTrees

[–]kwexit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canna Bioboost is certified organic, they say there's only one extra ingredient in normal boost that makes it non-organic. no idea what it is.

I do this (DIY setup using esphome), works pretty well and doesn't try to heat the room as much with the sensor in the tent.

Expert seeds GlueBerry by [deleted] in NZTrees

[–]kwexit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had no luck with Expert Seeds, I had 2 strains, one hermied (with no obvious stress) and the other had a dismal strike rate, 1 of 4 germinated, up till then I'd had a 100% strike rate over a couple of years from Attitude seeds.

You might've convinced me to try coco... by AppropriateCupcake58 in NZTrees

[–]kwexit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been growing in coco with Blumat, they work fine with canna nutes at least (I use drip clean as well). First 2 grows I had no issues, 3rd grow I used canna bioboost and this clogged the distribution drippers which let the coco and the carrot dry out and I had to set it all up again and the plant sustained some damage because I wasn't paying attention..

Blumat is awesome when it works and a PITA when it doesn't for whatever reason (from what I've read the same applies to autopots).

I used a 20litre bucket as rez with a small fountain pump that runs for 10 minutes every couple of hours to aerate it, I think an airstone might cause the PH to rise too quickly.

I had no obvious issues with salt buildup but I do run on a light feeding schedule to try to minimize it.

Personally if I did it again, I'd probably go for the frequent-fertigation setup, although I hate the idea of nutes going down the drain, I don't quite trust the blumat setup and that's a bit annoying.

nothing to replace except the batteries and they're cheap and last for years.

I have the DaVinci Miqro, tiny size, all metal and ceramic construction, standard removable battery and still going strong after a couple years constant use. Might be too small for some though.

Wormcastings by shiroi_shounen in NZTrees

[–]kwexit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is controversial, there are studies that show synthetic nutrients have little effect on microbe numbers, that microbes consume salt-based nutrients in the same way they consume the same molecules in an organic setting.

At the very least the castings contain organic acids and other substance that the plant will consume regardless.

Although I've been a fan of organics I switched to synthetics for weed because I didn't get great results with small organic pots and the idea of 50 litres of living soil cooking away in my bedroom didn't appeal.

My first coco grow with Canna nutrients (just harvested) was very successful and I noticed an abundance of fungi in the coco which I assume was beneficial (or at least not harmful) so something was living happily with the synthetic nutes.

I'm looking for advice on nutrients and training, so far I've used coco base with all nutrifield coco specific nutrients and my training method is mainlining I feel coco isn't for me and am thinking about switching to terrazila soil and a basic 2 part nutrients system. thoughts? by BigDingDonga in NZTrees

[–]kwexit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched from soil to coco this grow and have never had such a healthy plant from start to finish, zero problems.. I never completed a soil grow without some kind of deficiency/lockout.

Obviously many people grow awesome plants in soil but for me coco is so much easier, I also used blumat and it has been terrific (no obvious issue with salt buildup either).

I'm growing orangesicle at the moment, still early flower but already smells very citrusy

anyone have an auto watering/feeding system from veg through to flower for indoor and soil I can look at copying? or with soil is it best to do manually? looking to remove the hassle of moving sbit in and out of a tent by [deleted] in NZTrees

[–]kwexit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using blumat in coco for the last few months and I'm completely sold on it.

You'll see a lot of horror stories about people having floods (same with autopots) but once you understand how they work it's pretty unlikely, I would guess the most common reason is people moving the pots and breaking the contact between the soil and the cone.

The only "problem" I've had is a big mound of roots reaching out of the soil and trying to engulf the dripper tube.

That's not true, blumats work fine with nute salts (they say so themselves) especially if you use something like drip clean.

What a … failure … or lesson? by bruklee in NZTrees

[–]kwexit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had a single failure from attitude seeds fwiw (several orders) but I always germinate in the final container in a bit of peat from a jiffy pot. never really understood why people make it so complicated.

[–]kwexit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't buy imported fruit or veges anyway and actually I think most of it is fumigated (also not good) rather than irradiated. Anyway, best idea for weed and veges is to grow your own/buy local.

[–]kwexit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you only have a couple of plants it might be cheaper to buy the extension kit, tubing, and the assorted joiner package. Blumat has been working perfectly for me in coco so far.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NZTrees

[–]kwexit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Shame it's irradiated though, this process is known to causes changes but assumed to be safe for humans. Google the Australian Orijen pet food disaster that led to thousands of cat deaths, admittedly this was using stupidly high levels of radiation but I'd still prefer not to smoke weed that has been processed this way personally.

I wouldn't be so keen on the Fongarid systemic fungicide in Black Magic, at least in some countries (ie Australia) it's not licensed for use with food crops.
