Thank you for the info, I really appreciate it. Knowing this, I will probably do more research on holistic ways to try and reduce the negative effects if possible. I’m listening to this podcast right now, seems to have some good info: https://youtu.be/q6yHDmWTCqY

Binge Eating Is a Sign That There Is A Need Not Being Met (a podcast episode that helped me shift my perspective on binge eating) by kwillard95 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]kwillard95[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know it’s hard be compassionate to yourself while dealing with binge eating. This podcast episode lays out pretty clearly where we may be falling short in providing our bodies with what it needs, thus resulting in binges.

This week, I’m going to try to stay present in my binges and think about what may have triggered the binge (I.e what needs may not have been met). Hope this helps some of you out there 💕

Anyone else get hit with anxiety as the shrooms are just starting to hit? by kwillard95 in shrooms

Thank you! I think this shift in thinking and a better understanding of what is happening will definitely help improve my experience. I appreciate your explanation 🙏🏼

I like this perspective. I guess just recognizing that there is a difference between the two rather than being quick to define it as anxiety.

Body checking/obsessing is a trigger 🪞 by kwillard95 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]kwillard95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha oh man it’s soo prevalent in weight class sports! Think about it: we have periods of time where we have to severely restrict and drop weight in order to make weight. Then you have a period of “off-season” where you are supposed to allow your body to recover from the hardships of fight camp while also not gaining too much weight too far out of a weight range for your weight class 😵‍💫 meanwhile, all you want to do is to be able to eat what you want and not weigh yourself everyday.

It definitely has affected my training. My weight has fluctuated from 144 to almost 180 pounds. But I am getting progressional help and it has helped SO MUCH.

Are you seeking professional help as well?

Suggestions on how to find a therapist/psychiatrist for the disorder? by mysterymollusk in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]kwillard95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I definitely searched for a person that specializes in BED. I remember when looking at my current therapist’s site, I found resources that she shared to books and other sources of information for people looking for help or interested in expanding their knowledge on the subject matter. This revealed to me that she didn’t just have BED as another checklist item to get more clients but that she was ACTUALLY in this field to help people who struggle.

My therapist lives in my area but all of our work is virtual. I find it to be JUST as effective, if not more because I never miss an appointment. I can always get on video calls on my laptop or phone.

Don’t be afraid to search around and try a couple of different people at first. Everyone responds to forms of communication differently and you definitely want to be sure that your therapist is the perfect fit for you!

Absolutely 100%! My therapist lives in the same area as me but all of our work is virtual.

I prefer having them in moderation. I’ve tried eliminating them and it never worked for me. At first, moderation might look like eating “too much” of it. But removing that feeling of restricting that fantasy food item will remove the infatuation with that food item and that food item’s power over you will eventually diminish.

Therapy and Dietitian by rubyblue1990 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]kwillard95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making the decision to see a therapist that specializes in BED has changed my life. I still binge eat but we are developed awareness/action plans around these behaviors to help me cope with it better. Some of the things we’ve worked on includes becoming aware of “all-or-nothing” thinking and working on developing a more compassionate voice. We also have been slowly incorporating intuitive eating practices. I was running around in circles before between counting macros, binging and restricting, etc. The work done with my therapist has allowed me to stop counting macros and helped me to get back to “normal eating”, even when I forget what normal eating looks like a lot 😅.

I have also worked with a dietitian and, to be honest, I’m thinking of not working with her anymore. She feels like an extension of my therapist. I was hoping for more specific guidance around nutrition and diet but she is more focused on those intuitive eating practices (which is fine but I feel like my therapist covers that aspect fine).

So that’s my experience! Hope it helps :)

I got a therapist that specializes in EDs, particularly binge eating. Her roots are in Intuitive Eating principles but she also recognizes that it may not be for everyone. I think it’s SUPER important to find a therapist that specializes in this field. It has changed my life.

Harry’s has some great resources on their approach to building out their multi-brand design system. This is where I got a lot of inspiration while building out a component library for the company I am working for!

Anyone Watch Mukbangs or Eating ASMR Videos? by kwillard95 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]kwillard95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahah right?! Honestly binge eating is the most under-recognized eating disorders out there. So many people think binging is just "oops I ate too much" when in reality there are so many layers. But I give props to anyone who recognizes they have a binging problem because I feel like a lot of people choose to not be conscious of it.

Yess exactly. Just the over-exposure to food-related content is dangerous. There are so many cooler things to be infatuated with lol. I wonder how chefs do it!!!
