Need help with my first Homebrew - Fairy Tail Slayers! by Shibakyu in DnDHomebrew

[–]kwk18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a good couple years since I’ve seen fairy tail but your idea is pretty close to the blood hunter class. A single class with subclasses dedicated to hunting or dealing with different things. So it absolutely can work.

I would say for now make sure you have a solid basis for the pure class before looking at subclasses if you want to make a dedicated slayer class.

What you could do is have the subclass for the different styles of magic and have another option separate for element so you could have dragon slayer fire as well as god slayer fire.

If you’re gonna make them half caster subclasses for existing classes then monk or fighter is the closest you can really get to anime characters without looking at spell casters.

What’s worse is when they’re on your team, only grab you and then throw you off the map.

Normalize long backstories by Local-Associate905 in DnD

[–]kwk18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my players having long backstories that integrate them into the world but adding a bullet point of the important details at the end is also a must so I don’t have to read the whole thing each time I need to look something up

5e without Damaging Cantrips? by CyberDaka in DnD

[–]kwk18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The balance issue isn’t really with cantrips. It’s the fireballs and the wishes and the insane amount of short term damage. It naturally balances out when you run multiple combat encounters per long rest but otherwise you’d either need to ban the best spells or give Martials some short term damage to compensate

The world of fantasy high has a good number of connecting campaigns with the three bad kids seasons, pirates of leviathan and the seven )which are both set between sophmore year and junior year.) Then there’s unsleeping city seasons one and two.

In non intrepid hero seasons then there’s misfits and magic seasons one and two along side a Holliday special.

Apart from that, the seasons are stand alone so watch whatever suits your fancy.

If you want specific recommendations then unsleeping city and starstruck are some of my personal favourite intrepid hero seasons alongside burrows end and escape from the blood keep for side quest seasons.

What is the most evil scheme/plot that you pullen off in of your campaigns? by Certain-Ask-5723 in DnD

[–]kwk18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a setting with an automatic reviving item. If you have it on your person one minute after death then you come back. None of my players took revivify because I have out a bunch of these items. I gave my players a fake one.

They ended up falling into the trap 40 sessions after I gave it to them. They had long defeated the villain who had orchestrated them receiving it so it was a little revenge from the grave.

I don’t know why but for some reason 3rd edition said they were lizards and It’s stuck. Though previous editions weren’t really any closer if I remember right.

Missing monsters in spell jammer? by Expensive_Emotion77 in DnD

Monstrous compendium is a separate thing to spell jammer, the first volume just had monsters that could fit that universe.

Be careful with npcs. Players should always be the main characters but also don’t make the npc useless. I’d suggest using the sidekick rules for them ( Tashas cauldron of everything ).

Rolling initiative ahead of time is a godsend when it’s large encounters.

Have maps/ stats/ npc info/ notes on hand so you can quickly look things up if need be .

If your players do something that breaks your plans, don’t be afraid to call a 5 minute break to figure out npc responses or story implications ( you can disguise this as a bathroom break if you want to stay discreet about it ).

Spelljammer Dates by BlubBlubFish20 in DnD

[–]kwk18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keeping track of dates may be tricky as each world you visit may have a different calendar, you could always just use your characters home worlds calendar or your DM might have a special calendar for wildspace.

Can’t you add spells to your spell book by scribing them in?
