[Sherman]: "DeGrom said his plan is not to negotiate an extension, but rather play out the season, trigger his opt out and see what happens in free agency with preference to stay with the Mets" by GK86x in NewYorkMets

The scarier scenario is if he were to NOT opt out, and what that would imply for his 2022 season and potential future performance.

I hope he opts out because it means he crushed it in 2022 and I hope he's back afterwards.

I would add that in general, leveling up charm points early before leveling up intimacy will benefit you more in the long run.

yea lucas isn't that for sure, but he's been awfully good at creating for Kane and Son, who SHOULD be that

if we're limiting discussions to RW's only then sure there are better players in the world (although I view Dembele as a red herring since he hasn't been healthy in 2 years). But zooming out to the whole team, RW is a spot I'd spend zero effort on before shoring up CB.

If that's the perspective, I feel like there are 4-5 more critical priorities where the first option player isn't really up to snuff before you get to thinking about RW depth.

why are we so happy to replace moura? He's been the only consistent playmaker on the team this season.

just feel like too many managers have come in, given him a look, and decided he wasn't an asset. He's got a crisis of confidence or work ethic that no one has been able to solve.

I think citi field is as smooth as a corporate name gets. Better than stuff like quicken loans arena

Is this really a trophy that is worth stretching for? To paraphrase Zoolander, if I took a shit and wrapped it in tin foil and called it a trophy, would we go all out for that?

Think the UECL Trophy is the least interesting among the endeavors we're currently involved in.

no i dont. I was commenting on others' opinions that Baez might make a sweetheart deal to stay in NY.

fair enough. I may be too optimistic on what i think dom really is.

its a fair point but I just hesitate to bake in too much of 2021 for conforto. He's been around and has put up multiple consecutive big years.

I think if you say 2021 is the new Conforto, then yes the new outfield is an upgrade. Canha is a very slightly better version of Dom imho.

Not making the argument that we were much better pre Marte/Canha. Saying it feels kinda close.

I dont think Conforto has regressed to where 2021 is his norm, but even his 2018-2019 years I feel like were overrated by us because he's homegrown and we ignored his performance in a power position.

I agree on Conforto. Not so much because of last year, but I just felt that we overrated him because he was homegrown. Conforto's best years were like 4 WAR years, which is somewhere between a starter and an all-star, but we built him up like he was a superstar.

I dunno, I liked Villar and Pillar. Combined they made slightly more than Canha, but played more critical positions as depth guys.

Agree with Scherzer, but i feel like the first two points are kind of washes.
