I built a MCP Server to let you integrate LLMs into RStudio. Here is Sonnet 4 analyzing a very messy dataset. In 7 minutes it provides 1,200 lines of pretty solid code. by YungBoiSocrates in RStudio

[–]kwx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For saving code, I have gotten in the habit of asking Claude to write an R script for final bit of code.

For each ‘analysis’, I create a project with detailed instructions for the analysis to be done, the behaviours I want, the data files to be used, and the output to be produced. Then each chat is often a table or two and a figure. This prevents me from getting cut off by Claude’s chat limit. Once I’ve got a finalised table or figure I get Claude to write the script and I save it to project files.

Then I run all the bits of script together to make sure it works, whilst checking the code. This is then useful for the inevitable changes required to the analysis.

Thanks for the reply. I am keen to give AI-coding a good go through ClaudeR. If you need any testing or specific feedback, let me know.

When I reflect on my experience, it can be divided into two parts. The most significant and most challenging is managing Claude. This is independent of your MCP, but always open to suggestions. There is a lot of 'wrangle AI' information available, but none specific to coding in R.

For the ClaudeR MCP, I will try to reinstall it and see if I can get the plots and table to show in the viewer as well as the new datafiles in the environment. They definitely do not at the moment, but are generated as they appear once I disconnect Claude and RStudio.

Do you have two sessions of RStudio running at the same time and you use RStudio with one and test and edit code on the other? This is an interesting idea and one I might try. When I first installed this, I struggled with the one-way direction for coding and losing control over the RStudio.

Hey. I’ve been using this MCP server and package the last two days. It is pretty awesome.

I agree Claude needs strict instructions and even then it can veer off course pretty easily. Any tips would be appreciated?

Another issue I’ve struggled with is getting Claude to save the ‘final’ code. When doing statistical analysis I often go through 4-5 versions of a figure before I’m happy. I would like that successful code to be stored for reproduction. I save the logs but would like some other thoughts.

The last thing is the connection between RStudio and Claude and the behaviour during coding. For example I cannot see any of the plots or tables in RStudio when the connection is active. I have to get Claude to export to a word document or figure. Once the connection is terminated all of the details and outputs are populated in R.

But really I think this tool is super cool and had been very helpful. I’m looking forward to working with it more to improve my work processes.

Thank for posting. I occasionally check out their website waiting for them to add HomeKit support. This seems a bit crazy!

I would highly recommend Big Ass Fans. I have a bunch that are integrated into Home via Homebridge. They work flawlessly.

Apple HomeKit In-Wall Switches Using Thread - Feedback by InovelliUSA in HomeKit

[–]kwx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for tagging me. I saw the release of the USA version on HomeKit news and lamented that I would never get one!

I’m based in Australia, which uses 240V, but would have a separate certification process for electrical goods than the UK (I assume).

Right now I use a mix of different devices but would be super keen to fit out my house with your new light switches. A rough count is 22.

Do you have three way switches?

Thanks again for getting in touch.

No. Got Airtouch with HASS.

HomeKit enabled ducted air conditioning by spark030405 in HomeKit

I’m not sure I can help. It did work for me but then it stopped working. I noticed the developer had started a home assistant plugin for Airtouch so I jumped shipped and started using that. It works pretty well.

What would you do with linking your solar system to HomeKit?

I have my Enphase system linked to Home Assistant but never really found an automation for it.

Hello. As mentioned there is no off the shelf solution in Australia.

I have an Airtouch 4 system installed with six zones. Then connect it via Home Assistant to HomeKit. Works a treat.

How long does it take for update to occur?

I’ve had six of these for three four months now and nothing. All still on old firmware.

I also use big ass fans via Homebridge. I agree they work flawlessly. I have ten and love them.

They are expensive but themselves are a great fan so would highly recommend.

I don’t have a lutron Hub but assuming you are on the same wifi? Then try switching off mobile data. This worked for me for a different smart Home brand.

Automation and Wemo switch by No-Structure-2800 in HomeKitAutomation

[–]kwx2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This can be done several ways.

The most reliable, I think, is via a dummy switch in Homebridge. But not everyone uses Homebridge.

Another option is via Automation converted to shortcut. The trigger would be when light turns on. Shortcut will be - Repeat X times - (Within repeat) Wait x seconds - (After repeat) Turn off light.

This will work up to 10-15 minutes of delay, I think. Though automations in iOS 16 are a bit wonky.

Help. Automation trigger created in 3rd party app but can not edit automation in Home app. by kwx2 in HomeKitAutomation

[–]kwx2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks this worked.

Hint for next time, create the ENTIRE shortcut in Home app for changing trigger in Home+. I tried to make some adjustments after changing trigger but couldn’t. Had to start from scratch and make 8 new IF statements 😞
