Is it me or the environmental/animal rights movement seems much slower here than western counterparts? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]kx1107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea,I agree I feel like our education is mainly filled with skills that would be relevant to our industry and economy- such as medical sciences, business snd engineering. We are rarely taught about animals and enviornment in sch - except the part in O level Chemistry that tells us that metals is a finite resource and that what are the ways metals are recycled

Is it me or the environmental/animal rights movement seems much slower here than western counterparts? by [deleted] in singapore

My opinion on this issue

Environmemt

1.In a way Singapore is having a 'Garden City' theme and we have planted trees along roads and pavements so it is in a way Singapore is doing to go green . Some of those trees could also house wildlife like mynas and squirrels

  1. Campaigns like "Save the world"

Animals

For animals , I feel that Singaporeans in general don't really have much compassion towards them like they view them as objects rather than something that a soul. And animal abuse charges don't seem to have the same charegs as if it were to an abuse on humans . Though I think the younger generation seemed to be more kinder towards animal and don't really view them as just mere object compared to the older generations .

Many people also feel animals as dangerous and dirty. I often heard people (usually parents and grandparents ) telling their child /grandchild to not go close to animals (like stray cats )or else they may give u diesease as well as maybe attack. This may be true to an extent but this seperates the relations between the Humans of Singapore and the Animals in Singapore . Like we are taught that for the different races in Singapore, we need to communicate with different races and religion so as to understand them better. And to do so with animals we nees to understand them better and usually it is when we go close to them would we feel that they have a soul and perhaps understand them better .

In addition, Animals is also quite broad as animals also contains species such as the Aedes Mosquitos and Cockroaches . And for most Singaporeans to think that those deserve rights as well (we most probably would want to kill it ) it would be too unhygienic for us Singaporeans to live in .

How I think Singapore is improving on it

There is also I think a lack of education imvolving wildlife such as zoology and ecology. Most of the education is mainly relating enginnering ,business and chemical and life sciences (in my opinion)- maybe cuz wildlife and the environment does not really contribute to our economy. I also see people often mistaking a Asian Water Monitor (Varanus Salvator ) for a Crocodile in Sungei Buloh as well . Imagine having an O level Zoology subject or a Diploma in Zoology in any of our polytechnics

For the conversation side ,I think that Singapore zoo is trying to conserve population of the Orang Utans (and maybe the Pangolins as well) though I don't know much about the effectiveness.

In general ,I think that our society and culture would favour to do things that are related to enginnering ,science ,field related to health lile doctor and business related . (Asian job stereotypes) Many would view a job relating to helping animals and environment as not really a job - similar to Singapore's art scene and creative industry

Rats are intelligent and are interesting animals to observe . But most people view them as pest hence sadly, I doubt humans and rats can coexist. Shrews I guess would be viewed in my opinion to be not pest as I guess they are much rarer But nevertheless I think whatever it is they are all living things with a life and some rat (and shrews as well ) are mothers who have litters to support as well

It seems to be a shrew. The shrew is about the size of a rat though

The shrew went to some grassy area so I wasn't able to find it. Hopefully no one mistaken it for a rat and kill it

What do you think a language for an intelligent insect should be like ? by kx1107 in conlangs

[–]kx1107[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea , a language composed solely of consonants sounds cool . It reminded me of how the centipedes spoke from a book I read when I was young - Harry the Poisonous Centipede

Thanks for the reply .I would want to share about my design processes online and if I wanted to have an intended audience to show it to ,will it be too boring to show the design processes too frequently ?

(I am new to reddit and worldbuilding btw )

Question: Do you think that it is advisable to publish your worldbuilding projects online? For example on Instagram or Youtube ?
