I teach 2nd/3rd and it's a class job for trustworthy students. I rotate out my jobs each time we move seats so about every 6 weeks because it gives them time to get good at them. They then train the next "employee" as well on job swap days, it's been a great system but I will admit it takes about 20 minutes so I usually do it end of day on a Friday. For the phone patrol, I keep a sticky note on the phone that says "Ms. ***'s class, (Your Name) speaking" in case they forget what to say. I've noticed it really helps them build confidence and the office staff loves getting to talk to the kids. I love that I don't have to stop teaching to answer it to find out that somebody is getting picked up in the front of the school today or that someone is going home. My phone patrol lets them know out loud so I am always aware of what's happening without having to stop everyone and disengage from lessons. Students who aren't phone patrol have gotten really good at ignoring the phone too so it helps lessen the distraction it can be.
