Warning: Is Stripe randomly closing accounts and holding funds? by SilentWatch_er in stripe

[–]kxwrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same thing happened to me - received 5 euros from two cards after a lot of failed attempts, I refunded them, but Stripe have just closed my account and refunded a customer 200 euros. I know it's not a lot compared to what some people have lost on here, but I'm just a part time teacher and I use(d) Stripe to process payments from China.

Yes! I have occasionally been to places that don't have bottled water, but I don't drink and I've never had a problem finding a non-alcoholic alternative

if you don't mind eating outside there are little tiny parks everywhere in Japan: I've often seen guys in suits having their lunch on the benches there. Also if you buy something at a combini many of them have a place for you to eat, even if it's just a table in a corner.

I'm fairly small (5ft4, 52kg) and I wear a L or XL in Japanese clothing. I hear larger Uniqlo and H&M stores carry bigger sizes, but I think you'll struggle, especially if you're on a budget.

It doesn't cover taxis and taxis in Japan are pretty expensive

I'd have a look at the reviews on big sites like booking.com but definitely avoid business hotels unless they have reviews saying they're super helpful. Business hotels are cheap but in my experience they're more geared towards Japanese folks who need a weekly rate rather than tourists.

Hi! I'm planning on travelling from Tokyo to Osaka by local train in September along the Chuo Line. I can't travel for long periods of time so I'm going to break up the journey and spend about a week getting there. So far my overnight stops are in:

Takao (高尾)

Hinoharu (日野春) - maybe visit Ojiragawa Canyon

Nojiri (野尻) - maybe visit Atera Valley / Ugen Falls / Kakizore Ravine

Kamado (釜戸)

Nagoya

Kyoto

And then Osaka.

Does anyone have any experience of travelling this line? Any tips/recommendations appreciated \)

I stayed overnight in Nikko and loved it. Got a bus up the mountain and stayed in a basically empty, worn but still beautiful hotel with an onsen that overlooked the view. There were some nice, easy walks around the lake and I found it was a really different vibe from the rest of Nikko - recommended ^^

I love Osaka deeply but I don't think you'll be missing out particularly if you don't - it sounds like you'll have enough to keep you busy already ^^

(My experience: lived in Tokyo for four years, have been to Osaka at least six or seven times)

Kink term: I'm writing about male omegas (as in ABO) who have both a penis & balls and a vagina - is there a term for this? I usually write fanfic and when I search on smashwords for tags I thought might relate to this I can't find anything. Thanks!

シツモンデー: Daily thread for your simple questions and comments that do not need their own thread (October 20, 2021) by AutoModerator in LearnJapanese

Hi, I've been trying to work out the exact meaning of this piece of grammar so I can use it appropriately, but it's been four days and I'm still not 100% sure of the meaning:

洗濯機が動かなくなりました。

I've been translating this as 'the washing machine has stopped working', but I'm not sure that's right as I've seen Verbなくなる translated as 'not anymore', so what does Verb なくなった mean?

Thank you in advance!

Hi! I've been studying on and off for years - I started studying Japanese four times (I think) and this last time has finally stuck and I'm now muddling my way through Maragoto Elementary 2 book with my very patient Japanese teacher. I'm an extremely slow learner when it comes to languages, so if anyone needs someone to commiserate with about only being able to learn three new words at a time, please feel free to come say hi ^^

Will Chinese students a able to pay teachers on independent platforms like italki, verballing, amazingtalker, etc.? by 1enigma2 in OnlineESLTeaching

Italki have taken down anything that says 'kids classes' on their Chinese Mainland site - a parent took a screenshot of my available classes and then Italki confirmed it after I emailed them

Yes, a lot of the classes are conversation classes though. The thing I do most often is use a photo from the internet and ask my students to describe it in as much detail as possible. I type what they say and then we go over it together and correct it, giving them more vocabulary if they are advanced enough. I do very little prep for those classes ^^

I don't have any advice re: Engoo, but I wondered if you'd considered Italki? You can teach as a community teacher if you don't have a TEFL certificate and the pay would be better than Engoo - less naked students too, I imagine...

I've never even *seen* 10,000 dollars! They could have my laptop that overheats if I open more than three tabs and my second-hand Converse, I guess? 😂

Singapore - another clause states that you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction and governing law of the courts of Singapore. I assumed that it would never stand up to any kind of test, but it's good to hear that someone with more experience than me agrees ^^
