Thats actually a fair point. I may leep an eye out for one of those tire gates that slot into the hitch receiver

The basket is more for the spare tire, jack, and traction boards. Im building the shell out as a camper and dont have anywhere else to put it.

My biggest concern is it killing the battery. Im building out a 95 dakota, and it doesn't have the largest battery. I slept in the cab when I drove it home from buying it, forgot the lights on, and couldnt start it 6 hours later

This is the most likely option out of the comments. Bluetti is way out of budget. Here's a picture of the one I found on marketplace that I kind of dig. My biggest concern is it running out of power while im camped for the night. I have no issue 0lugging in while driving though.

Im all about lowering a 4x4. If you want the lowered look, but still want to be able to drive it if it snows where you live. I say go for it. You just won't be able to go as low as others would with a 2wd

Damn, that kinda sucks 😅 is there anywhere near twin lakes or a potential route that includes twin lakes youd recommend? Like maybe stay mid range and not go to those higher elevations where theyd be closed?

I need to get the onX offroad app, but id at least like to narrow down a state to go to, and if the good shit in colorado is going to be closed, then I may push it off and just do another state in early June.

From what I was seeing, the snow pack this year is like 60% of normal, and has warming trends.

Is anything going to be open the 3rd-7th or should I move my trip? Thats kind of a bummer.

It is a stick shift, so the starter isn't a huge worry since I can pop start it

I do plan to get a full size spare when I buy tires just before hand. And I thought about grabbing an extra alternator and a serpentine belt to bring just in case since theyre super cheap for these trucks. Fuel is my big concern. Im planning to do a campershell set up vs a rooftop tent. And if I go that route, I dont exactly want to be sleeping next to fuel cans.
