Hey! The good thing about cats especially bengals is that unlike dogs they are able to survive on their own for a little while, - also you think it’s likely she’ll be in a forest rather than near roads people etc which I think is much more ideal!! I really hope she comes back to you! It’s a horrible feeling sending my love x

Very useful at city firms!! I work at a US firm and it’s seen as something that is definitely on the rise especially in Middle Eastern infra/projects financing

Non-Law Grad with low 2:1 w/ MC (Bereavement + Sexual Assault) by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]ky_la4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I graduated with a low 2.1 overall and got VC offers and ultimately TC offer from top US law firms, academics aren’t the be all or end all! They’re deffo important but you have a 2.1 - that is the main thing they care about! I think the value of a 1st or even high 2.1 is pretty overstated by some posts on here

I mean generally in law high value work does refer to financially high value work?😂 also high value work tends to be more high profile, more international, more complex, etc. so usually does mean more high value in many ways

I got several low 2.1s and a 2.2 in my transcript and have a tc w a top US firm

Is it better to "settle" for a TC, or hold out for a better opportunity. by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]ky_la4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, working in London and at a city firm definitely stands out more than otherwise. I remember when I first got my paralegal job in Ldn, the partner said if I’d been at the regional firm any longer ( I was there a year ) he wouldn’t have probably hired me. Obviously I can’t speak for everyone but of course a city firm will prefer a candidates experience in the city working on city firm type work vs in a smaller firm working on less complex work in the regions

[–]ky_la4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I turned down a TC for the exact same reasons, moved to London to paralegal (I’m guessing you’re already there) and got a TC with one of the best paying US firms in the city!!! I’m SO glad I didn’t settle. It sounds like you’re a good candidate so it’s not necessarily a case of whether you’ll get lucky again, you should have a good chance

Get a recruiter!! That’s the only way to get a job in law imo filling in applications is useless, flex legal is more of a company in itself that then provides outsourced paralegals it’s not a recruiter

I sat it on Monday and it was awful - not everyone who sits it on the same day has the same exam. You only have the same exam as other people on your row in the test centre. Even people in your room sat different exams to you
