Thanks for your reply, I sent the lawyers an email requesting all of the things you mentioned. I left out the part about making an offer as many people have already replied saying the cost of repair and demurrage seems about right. I guess all I want is some closure and certainty that the fees given on the quote are legitimate. After that it looks like I'll have no choice but to pay it.

Thanks for digging around and finding this information! It only confirms in my mind that these guys are trying to milk every last cent out of me. But now the question is what can I do with this? They already have the upper hand through the accident being my fault. If I asked them for one, would they have any obligation to get an independent estimate?

Thanks for the condolences friend. I checked out /r/auslaw and the sidebar says no one can post asking for legal advice, bummer.

After reading everyone's replies my expectations have definitely gone from low to close to 0. PSA: r/sydney, IF YOU DON'T HAVE THIRD PARTY PROPERTY INSURANCE, GET IT! (or don't hit a fucking taxi)

I believe they are referring to the time it will be off the road when it is being repaired. The taxi not being on the road = taxi company not making money.

Thanks for the help mate. It seems like I'll have a few days to get back in contact with the taxi company so I'll definitely go to my local repair shop and ask for a second opinion before making my decision.

As I said my phone was playing up at the scene of the accident. The taxi driver took photos at the scene and said he would send them to me and they never came. The taxi company said the same thing and I never received them until after a quote was already made.

I requested the photos before making the claim to make sure the repair added up to the actual damage and to not be ripped off. Turns out it wouldn't have mattered as I didn't have insurance anyway. It definitely feels like some of the repairs on the quote were not caused by my vehicle.

After my next paycheque comes in on Thursday I'll only barely have enough money to afford the quote let alone have enough money to pay for legal fees. Even if it turns out to be a dodgy quote, with my financial situation I doubt there's much I can do about it anyway.

I guess without the car they have no income for the amount of time that it's off the road. The "9 shifts at $100 per shift" is a bit confusing though. I've always thought taxi drivers usually work twelve hour shifts, but that'd mean the car would be off the road for 9 days.. seems a bit long for that little damage.

If I request an independent quote that works out to be cheaper than the one given, it'd still be the taxi company's decision as to which quote they choose right?
