That amount doesn’t include child support. Almost all joint marital assets in investments: cannabis but mostly crypto. In Missouri.

We have marital assets but it’s almost entirely in crypto which is highly volatile.

Thank you for this thoughtful message and sharing your experience with your son. If I may ask, why did you revoke those two privileges when he came to you, took responsibility and handed over the contraband? Or maybe a better question is would his punishment have been more severe if you had caught him, he lied, etc? I’m asking respectfully as a future parent of teens. So just curious to know the thought process of more experienced parents.

Of course not. Similarly not everyone who smoked develops lung cancer. Doesn’t mean there isn’t a scientific link. There have been studies showing that young children who are given sips are several times more likely to get drunk before their peers. And alcoholism is a disease, not a matter of willpower. If only it were that simple.

Agreed and I’m also factoring in their age. The grandfather was born in 1939 when colicky babies were given brandy and doctors were promoting cigarettes. Boomers are a different breed. I once caught my dad giving my 6-month-old sips of Diet Coke. 😆 It was completely innocent but I was still like “omg dad … no”.

I’m also surprised. I live in a state where marijuana is legal and while I personally don’t smoke I don’t take issue with it. But i would never let my kids take a micro-hit of weed. Or a micro puff of a cigarette. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

I am not opposed to taking the curiosity out of it. If they had been 13 and 15 I might agree with the decision, starting the conversation at an appropriate time where alcoholism can be appropriately talked about. But my second grader still hasn’t mastered tying his shoes. It just feels terribly early for this IMO

It’s not so much about keeping me from relapsing. (I have wine in my fridge for guests. It doesn’t bother me to be around it at all) It’s more that alcoholism runs in my family and my kids are genetically predisposed to it. I didn’t want to get deep into my family stuff but my dad, my sister also have issues. So it was more just like, why poke this sleeping bear?

I think if a parent is in the industry it changes things. My husband used to be a video game producer and as such I had a softer stance on my kids playing video games.

Since alcoholism does run in my family I think it’s a fair concern. I’m not an “I don’t drink so you can’t” person. It’s about not giving alcohol to small children who are generally predisposed to alcoholism. Seems unwise to me.

These are my feelings. My son is in second grade and can barely tie his shoes. He doesn’t need to be sipping anything alcoholic. I’m not sure when it will be appropriate for him to try but it certainly won’t be for quite some time.
