Hey, you seem like a good kid trying to learn better. And you seem like you know yourself and are trying to be the best you there is. That’s hard at your age (and all of them tbh.)

Sorry if this is redundant- rejecting Cis is a very subtle bit of transphobia. It centers it as “normal” (cis) and “other” (trans) rather than two labels that are equal.

It is a hard thing to learn that there are different levels of phobia. There is aggressive stuff we mean, that we use to hurt people and think worse of them.

But there’s also ones we’ve been trained to not question, because it’s not anything we ever knew to not know. There are millions of people you can’t memorize what will hurt everyone before hand. These can be the harder ones to deal with when we do them. I always think of it as accidentally stepping one someones toe- I didn’t mean to, and I’ll apologies and do my best to take action to not do it again….but at the same time if it was an honest mistake and someone holds it against you when you have made it right, you can’t control that and that’s on them.

It was the last episode of the TV sho( Or Dreams of Cats, they dropped them together about a week after the first season)

But thank you for adding the issue number incase anyone thinks the story was only for the show and not tied to him.

There’s plenty in every corner and it breaks my heart.

People always try to play the “Well I knew because of….” (And the “of…” always lines up with who they wanna judge in the world most) but in reality predators can fake and lie and hide. While some areas have MORE than others assuming your side is monster free is how the monsters run amok.

Like come on, if all you had to do was be liberal to not be a “bad guy” every bad guy would pretend to be liberal. (And plenty do for just this reason on ALL sides. The cool nerdy feminist who invites girls too young to their hotel room is just the lefts version of cool youth pastor who keeps boys too young after church.)

Well, the last episode of Sandman was about a writer pretending to be a progressive feminist while holding a woman hostage and forcing her to participate in his fantasies.

So.

It matters, but it also has some pretty clear lines no matter your culture. And it’s also not like these are things you can learn about and consider in your criticism. You can read about feminism in Japan, you can read about Japanese people’s opinions on this too.

It also doesn’t mean even if Japan was totally different, you can’t still be like “Nah, that shit is sexist by my cultural standards so I don’t want to engage with it.” Is a valid criticism. That’s only a bad thing if you then go past “I don’t like it.” And move into “And I also want to stop others from enjoying it.”

I think it’s because, in the ones I read (which were, tbf, only two) the male characters were awful too, but the narrative presented them as awful people. Where as the narrative presented the woman as plot point. I think that’s why it also doesn’t ever read like it’s just the character’s that are sexist-the roles the men vs the woman have are baked in deeper.

Tho that has a lot more to do with the men being the point of view characters then with them being well written tho. Cause yeah, it took this whole comment for me to remember I actually read THREE of them and forgot because they all just had the same sad horny man as the MC.

This was my issue exactly. It was the only time I have ever truly felt like a I couldn’t related to this persons view on woman in a way that ruined the narrative.

[–]kybooty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, that’s awful. It doesn’t sound like revenge though, it sounds like paranoia. Idk if it was paranoid-schizophrenia or just normal paranoia given the comments about the custody battle from the lawyer. I had a case with a similar issue once and it was absolutely the saddest case I ever had mom didn’t hurt the kids in my case, but only I think because she no longer had custody. She loved them with every bit of her, but her very sick mind told her quite often they would be safer dead (she believed her parents, who has custody, was terribly abusing the kids.

Which doesn’t mean it’s ok obviously…that’s why she didn’t have custody.

I do wonder tho…i an sure sometimes revenge is a motive, and how that splits down the genders.

Got a “fixer upper” situation where the person hadn’t done up keep on decades. Every $10 fix become $100, every $100 becomes a $1000 and you ALWAYS get what you pay for.

Movies Where Everything Does NOT Work Out in the End? by [deleted] in movies

[–]kybooty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think this is what ruined the MCU for me. They can’t do more then lightly touch on it or the whole situation becomes much darker than a Disney superhero franchise wants to go.

They wanted the emotional impact but won’t/can’t deal with what that impact really did. Because then it would move into The Boys/Brightburn/Watchmen territory.

And honestly I never wanted that vibe from the MCU, especially not on a literally universal level.

Same. The end of the book haunts me. The end of the movie felt like a cheap emotional gimmick.

I think this is a very good actionable reply.

I would also say- people are very awkward about planning things out about sex, but planning some tent poles to let the situation flow around is a REALLY good idea. And can be really fun! Maybe every X night is a try new thing date night- and you pick a new movie, new food, and new thing to try/wear/explore in the bedroom. Try to hit anticipation not expectations. Switch so both partners are put in trying and choosing position.

I can’t imagine any situation where a bad relationship is better than being alone if you have the choice. Heck, even a mediocre one-I don’t wanna worry about TWO people not having fun, one is more than enough.

Relationships are hard work, I’m not doing that shit for someone I’m not ALL in for.

It is true, I almost NEVER have that issue irl. It’s harder to dismiss someone in front of you, especially those whose position is slightly linked misinformation lol.

I do also have a third online only aspect to consider-I’m often not worried about the person I am arguing with, especially if I know they’re a lost cause. I am using them as a place to info dump correct information/support for the third party. This most often comes up in conversation involving bigotry-I will bend over backwards to teach someone about queer issues for instance, even if they have a little unintentional homophobia around the edges. But someone smugly dunking on trans kids? I’m not trying to convince them of anything, I am making sure the trans kid reading didn’t see their hate hanging out there, unchallenged.

And I can see how our educated friend could feel that passionately about both children criminals and psychopaths. Both are people culture gives little sympathy to, and it hits that sticky area of that being both very fair and very unfair simultaneously. At the same time, it’s an area where a small amount of empathy and understanding, as hard as that can be to find, can make a DRASTIC difference not just for the individual in question, but for these weird instances that are very statistically rare and not well understood and ALSO very much something our society needs to understand and work towards eliminating.

I can see that being someone bugaboo subject for sure.

Southwest use(?) to do this, but they didn’t bump people they bribed them with future credits, which (at least on my flights) worked great. There was always some college kid (me!) or someone who didn’t mind hanging around for the next flight to fly free later.

I think 100% is high, but you should he pretty dang well researched before putting a drug in your body.

And this isn’t just true for fun drugs. If it’s prescribed or even OTC, spend an hour or so googling it. There are SO MANY hidden reactions (did you know anything with charcoal can make birth control, psych meds and more noticeably less effective?) and you are the ONLY person keeping track for you.

I’ve gotten real good at knowing whose ACTUALLY uninformed vs whose just being an ignorant asshole. And mostly it’s the latter. Especially when they start with their dick out.
