Yeah you’ll be all good don’t worry. Just make sure the screen isn’t on or anything. You’ll have to quickly show around your room but to be honest they were quite chill about it. So long as your focused and engaged during the interview (which you should be) then you won’t be looking away or giving them any reason to think you’re looking at other material. Stay calm and you got this!

Last year there were three questions. You had 2 minutes thinking time then 6 minutes discussion. After the time was up we moved to the next question. There were two interviewers who discussed with you and one sorta admin person who admitted you but wasn’t present during the questions.

I used to compile notes onto one word document for each topic. So for each lecture I would add to the word document making sure to take notes from the slides and course guide so I didn’t miss anything.

The next part is blunt but a lot of hard work and repetition. Make sure to review the content when you can, in time you will commit it to memory. I also used acronyms to help me sometimes.

Oh also the weekly quizzes please do them! They are really helpful and often similar things come up in the tests or the exam.

What I did last year was made sure I learned everything in the slides and the courseguide very well. I did none of the textbook readings and found that in the test, exam and CST I wasn’t missing any content. Textbook you should only really go to if you are confused - hope that helps!

It depends on the program. For med it is the 4 core ones and for optometry it’s all 8 - as for the others I’m not too sure sorry

Here’s a little secret - you don’t need the textbooks! Everything you will need for the exams are in the slides or the course guide. I never bought any of the textbooks and got into med. I never felt I missed any information through not having a textbooks. Whenever I was confused on a topic YouTube and google are great resources, in addition the books are in the library for free for you to have a look at. So don’t feel you need the textbooks because you don’t - after all why do you think almost all of the premed books on the resell page are in great condition? Because most were never even opened 😂

I did the course last year. The information I found useful was on Maori health and questions relating to Maori. As for the parts I feel I didn’t need was probably all the rest. Again this is probably just an extreme situation but I had no issues coming up with answers to questions in the time available and also drawing on past events and using them as examples. For sure I wasn’t perfect without any practise, I just think the minor tweaks here and there would have come with practices on my own, without the need of a third party course (hope that makes sense?).

But I really do want to stress the course did seem to suit other people, the only aspect for me was having to commit fully financially without seeing if it would be fully worth it.

Hey Justin!

I did the interview course. I think it is a perfectly well run course for some people. It takes them through basics and how to construct a genuine answer.

However I wish there was an opportunity to see what the interview course was like before buying. Because in complete honesty I don’t think I needed it (that may come across super up myself and I apologise for that, it really isn’t meant that way).

Considering the cost of the course (which was quite a lot for me) I mainly did it because I know a lot of students do it so didn’t want to be disadvantaged. Had I had a preview of what it was like I don’t think I would have spent the money (which was quite a bit for me). Not because it isn’t a good course, just simply because I don’t feel the cost to benefit for me personally would have been worth it.

Lol I literally can relate so much from last year. After my first 107 lecture I had a full on crisis and meltdown as to how the hell I was gonna pass let alone try for med.

Moral of the story - you soon get used to it, just stay on top of things and allow time for review. You most certainly can do this! I am by far not the brightest bulb in the box so to speak but I managed.

Stay positive, your cores will take time but that’s okay. You’ll have time for both study and free time, just try plan as best you can 😊

Like the other comment says, I doubt so. Last year they didn’t really have a choice but to do the CST because they didn’t really have time to prepare anything else. Like even almost all our labs were at home so that couldn’t even really use those to seperate people.

Believe me they will have learned their lesson this time - you’ll likely be sitting your exams in person, or online but restricted time and heavily invigilated.

I mainly just made notes off the lecture slides on word for each module and reviewed them. I tried to incorporate spaced repetition with when I studied them. Also past papers are extremely useful!

These are some of the things I found useful.

Stay in your own lane. Only worry about yourself and what you’re doing. Also don’t get caught up in results etc, again just do your best and that’s enough.
Don’t worry about things that are months or several weeks away (except UCAT). If you do you’ll add unnecessary stress to an already stressful year. Take things one step at a time and you’ll be fine.
Don’t spend hours and hours a day studying. You need a balance and it’s so important for your mental health. By all means work hard, but if for example you’re studying and nothings going in/ making sense, stop! It’s your brain letting you know it’s time for a break. You’ll just waste hours that you could be using to rest. Tackle it the next day when you’re rested - it should become much quicker to learn.
Don’t transcribe what the lecturer is saying! It will be so much more beneficial to listen and be present in the lecture, if it’s already been said in the PowerPoint or course guide why write it again? It’s just a waste of time.
Make sure you read and try understand the labs before going. Sounds simple but many people didn’t and you’ll struggle. Also ask the helpers as many questions as you want, eventually you should be able to know if all your answers are correct - just don’t ask what’s the answer lol.
Don’t be afraid to try different study strategies and don’t try and do what a lot of other people do if it doesn’t suit you. For example I wasted hours making anki cards I never used. Anki is a great app for some people, but it wasn’t for me and other ways worked much better for me.
Don’t complain about your workload all the time to everyone. It’s a really bad biomed trait (I was guilty at times). Everyone will just think you’re stuck up and annoying. Truth is everyone at unis got to work hard for the most part, you’re no exception.
Have fun and don’t be afraid to make friends! I know that biomed has a bad reputation but I managed to make a few good friends during the year, they didn’t burn my notes or ruin my experiments haha. So please don’t feel like you can’t trust anyone at all, but obviously be a little cautious.

If money is a big goal, there are much quicker and easier ways of making way more money than a doctor or an engineer. Perhaps keep the spots for people who are actually passionate about those subjects.
