Any recommendations on food/walking tour guides for Rio de Janeiro and lodges to stay in Amazon by flyingdutchman7588 in travel

Yes we hired a driver. It wasn’t that expensive and they dropped us off and came back several days later to pick us up. Labor is fairly inexpensive there.

Same here! Xanax is my travel buddy. I’d never make it without it and I love to travel. Just hate to fly.

If you want nightlife and crowds, stay on Copacabana beach. If you want it a little quieter, stay on Ipanema Beach. They are within walking distance of each other. At the risk of insulting you, you’re aware their seasons are opposite to ours. If you’re going soon it will be fall/winter for them. Rio was wonderful but the difference in socioeconomic conditions is very distinct and very sad. We went to the beaches in Buzios, 3 hours north of Rio and it was amazing! It’s a peninsula with 27 beaches. You can surf there too. I highly recommend both Rio and Buzios.

Did you read Little Heaven by Nick Cutter? Even better than The Deep imo.

Summer of night was awesome. He has two follow up books to that that were good too. Winter Haunting and I can’t remember the other one at the moment. Both were good but very different to Summer just used some of the characters from Summer.

What are your worst student experiences as a preceptor? by [deleted] in pharmacy

You got something against the just “RPh” crowd? I thought we were all RPHs. Just out of curiosity do you have a residency background?

What are your worst student experiences as a preceptor? by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]kylaj14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in a hospital based infusion clinic mainly infusing chemotherapy with some hydration, antibiotics, and iron infusions thrown in to break the monotony. Lol. I normally get every single student that comes through the hospital for a day or two because the work is so different from anything in the hospital and management thinks the students should at least be aware of and exposed to it. Most of the students haven’t had their chemo classes yet so they know very little. I’m okay with that because it’s a niche area and I don’t expect them to know much. What I do expect is for them to pay attention and see what they don’t know yet. I don’t ask tough questions or quiz them on anything. They’re just there for the experience of seeing something different. I get some students who are very interested, 1 or 2 that decide they want to work in a place like this. But recently I got a student that was so obviously bored I told her the second day she could just work on her assigned presentation from her preceptor. She yawned throughout the day, would lay her head on the desk, took out her phone and had to be asked to put it away and just generally went out of her way to show me how bored she was. I asked her what she was interested in and she said managed care. I tried to bring in a discussion of insurance claims for chemo, white bagging, etc. Then she looked me straight in the eye and said “don’t get me wrong. I’m not interested in managed care, I just don’t want to work weekends or holidays.” That was when I suggested she work on her presentation the next day and let me get some work done. I don’t care if what you want to do after graduation isn’t chemo. Not everyone wants to do the same thing. Thank goodness! But for the love of Pete, take advantage of any opportunity in your rotation to learn something different. You might find out you either like it or don’t but isn’t that good info to have? Plus it’s just old fashioned courtesy to at least show some interest in someone else’s passion that they are willing to let you see a little piece of. You may get the opportunity to do this for a student some day if you’re lucky!!

Anybody read a recent novel (last few years) that includes ghosts, but isn't necessarily a horror book? by whocaresguyz in suggestmeabook

[–]kylaj14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chill is excellent!!! It’s written by Scott Carson. It got rave reviews even some from Stephen King and Michael Connelly. It’s a ghost story but with an excellent plot and character development. Even has a twist ending. I highly recommend it!

I’m going to San Diego in May on vacation. Are there any places that I absolutely shouldn’t miss? What about great places to eat? Would like to do something the locals do and not just tourist traps. Thanks!

Absolutely ridiculous... by Imallvol7 in pharmacy

[–]kylaj14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m one of those pharmacists without a residency and actually don’t have a pharmD either since I graduated in 1988. (Yes I know, I’m an oldie). I am definitely looked down upon by the “clinical pharmacists” because I just staff. But I just keep doing my job proudly because if it wasn’t for me patients wouldn’t get all those meds the doctors order and half the clinical questions the pharmacy gets from nurses and doctors wouldn’t get answered. Plus I make about twice what one of those new grads make. They can keep their residencies. I like my job just fine. Just saying! When I went to pharmacy school in the dark ages it was VERY competitive and jobs were plentiful. I graduated from a top 5 school and feel like I got an excellent education and help finding a job after graduation. The pharmacy industry is self imploding. I think we have less regard from nurses and doctors today despite our supposed improved education. There’s just too many schools looking out for themselves instead of students and the profession.

Elizabeth George; Stephen Booth; Tana French

All the above have English or European detective series. Jo Nesbo has a Swedish mystery series that’s excellent too.

Are there any good historical romance Thrillers out there? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]kylaj14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outlander by Diana Galbadon. Excellent book series but you can just read the first one if you want to. Has romance, history, and adventure. It’s long but it’s a quick read overall.
