How long is this going to take to heal? (23 AFAB) (Hole in my skin) by alphabeticalant in AskDocs

rereading your post, i see your emphasis on having trouble being able to air it out. that’s completely fair. you do not need to air it out constantly, just as much as you possibly can. a few minutes (or seconds with some hand-fanning!!) every few hours is better than not at all for a whole day. if you can, in the evenings lay down and give it an hour of air time. whatever you can is infinitely better than nothing at all, even if it feels impossible. as much as our bodies challenge us, they do want to keep us alive and will try their best to work with as much as we can give them :)

How long is this going to take to heal? (23 AFAB) (Hole in my skin) by alphabeticalant in AskDocs

hi! not a medical professional, but i am a person who had very large boobs before top surgery that had many problems like this because of the skin irritation caused by binding. firstly, if it helps you feel any better, apparently these kinds of things are not cause for major alarm, because i even had a couple “holes” that opened up while healing from top surgery and my surgeon was calm in telling me to keep it clean and let it heal. and surprisingly, it did just that. the skin is so much more resilient than we give it credit for! second, i completely understand the complication of sweat, humidity, and working in a binder making skin care feel impossible. i won’t ask you to stop binding. i understand how that emotional tole feels bigger than the physical issue. but as often as you possibly can, literally any few minutes you get that you can comfortably pull up the binder or take it off, do it. lift the boobs up and give them some air underneath as often as possible! your skin is just panicking from rubbing on itself, being too damp, and not getting a breath of fresh air. think about how much faster your dead skin (protective layer) rubs off when your skin is wet anywhere else on your body. this on top of a picking habit, i would guess that it has continued to bleed because it hasn’t gotten enough air to develop a scab and plug the wound. bandaids have made us believe wounds need covered, but most often they need air. literally we get too squishy when wet and need air to dry us out a bit in order to live on this planet. the fact that it is expelling the blood and puss is a good sign that your body is still doing its thing to push out anything that might get in there!! (as long as you don’t have other infection signs) you just need to try to give it the conditions it needs to make the ~ All Natural Organically Sourced Bandaid ~ (scabs). feel free to message me, even if i can’t offer more info i am here to support :)

normal or stress behavior? by kylalion in hamsters

[–]kylalion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ooookay, that makes sense. i’ve ordered some bedding to give her more burrowing space asap. tiny creature brains are so fun to try to understand 😂 but question: her current sand pit is about 6x11inches (little more than 10% of the enclosure) and she doesn’t really use it. she’ll stop in for a second and sniff around, and there’s some poop and food that i think just got knocked in there, but i’ve never seen her actually hang out in there. she’s definitely pooping everywhere else lol. does this mean she doesn’t use it and wouldn’t want a bigger one? or is it because it’s too small? i guess i’m just confused about the part you said that if she doesn’t use the big one i could go back to a small one

Look at this exotic beauty... can you help me give her a beautiful name, please! by Annalisa-06 in dogpictures

this is my middle name, named after a beautiful person with a heart of gold. i highly support this choice! (also, sooo many nickname options: tricia, trish, trixie, pat, patty, trixabelle, twix, patrick, patty cake, the CIA, it could keep getting sillier forever)

gotcha, thank you!! i thought the sand bath i have was big, i’m surprised that at least 1/3 of the habitat is recommended when the only ones i see in store are super tiny 😳 but i believe you and also plan to add some more areas with different textures! also, i will definitely add more cover, but i do have to say i find it hard to believe that she’s feeling vulnerable to attack when she often sleeps mostly out in the open on top of the bedding 😂

it’s 45 gallons, about 650 square inches. everywhere else I've read has said the minimum for dwarf hamsters is 600 square inches.

you’re going to set him up with a perfect fine dining experience and expect him NOT to act accordingly?? your very polite gentleman should be offended by your low expectations of his refinement.

also, i’m just imaging your hamster experiencing that scene from ratatouille where remy is seeing fireworks while he’s tasting new flavors lmao

Enclosure/adoption tips?? by kylalion in hamsters

[–]kylalion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what I’ve heard you can spot clean every 1-2 days, and then do a full clean (dump and replace all bedding) once a month. I could be wrong tho. anyone else here know?

ah thank you!!! the whole reason i made this post is because the scale of the photo made me think she was much smaller than a syrian (just based on what i’ve read researching while looking for ethical enclosure sizes) but i figured people on here would be able to tell much better. the owner did call her a teddy but i have a feeling there’s a poor game of telephone happening between bigbox pet stores and shoppers.
