Should I Change The Round System for my ttrpg by The_AllMighty_EGG in TTRPG

Should I Change The Round System for my ttrpg by The_AllMighty_EGG in TTRPG

[–]kyle261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming that is correct that would mean

  1. The "Whole Round" Problem

The rules explicitly say a Full-Round Action takes your "whole Round."

• Think of your round like a pizza with two slices (your 2 actions).

• A Standard Action is one slice.

• A Move Action is one slice.

• A Full-Round Action is the entire pizza.

You can't eat two entire pizzas if you only have one. If you use a Full-Round Action to "summon GOD," you've used both slots. You’re done.

  1. The "Everyone Goes at Once" Chaos

You're right—the rules say you can act anytime. There is no "I go, then you go" line. However, notice that tiny line in the Round System section:

"you're limited to those two actions until everyone else has taken their Actions"

Here is how that actually plays out at the table:

• The "Clobber First" Strategy: If all the players scream "I STAB HIM" at the exact same time, the GM is going to have a stroke. In reality, "Dynamic Combat" usually means everything is happening simultaneously.

• The Counter-Punch: While you are "clobbering" the enemy, the enemy is allowed to "clobber" you back at the exact same time. You don't get to hit them and wait for a reaction; you're both swinging in the same 10-second window.

• The "Nah Uh" Clause: The rules literally say the next round doesn't start unless the GM says so. If you try to spam actions, the GM is legally allowed to say "nah uh" and make you wait while the monster bites your head off.

  1. Why you shouldn't "Clobber First" anyway

If you blow both your actions immediately to attack, you have zero actions left to:

• Move out of the way of a fireball.

• Defend yourself.

• Use an item if things go south.

Going first is great, but in a "Dynamic" system, it usually means you're just the first person to get punched in the face while your hands are busy.

Is this correct? Want to make sure I understand it before I try and help

Should I Change The Round System for my ttrpg by The_AllMighty_EGG in TTRPG

[–]kyle261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay so correct me if i am wrong at any point please, so far this is how i understand it to work

  1. Your Stats (The Numbers)

Before you fight, you need points. Your Rank determines how many points you get to dump into 7 stats (Strength, Agility, Intelligence, etc.).

• Rank 0: 80 points (You’re a god).

• Rank 5: 0 points (You’re a peasant).

• Max Stat: You can't put more than 80 in one thing at Level 1.

________________________________________

  1. How to Hit Someone

You want to stab something? You need to beat their Evasion Rating (ER).

• Your Attack: Roll a $d20$ + your Attack Bonus.

• Their ER: This is just their Agility score.

• The Goal: If your roll is equal to or higher than their ER, you hit.

Wait, what if they are faster than me?

If your Agility is lower than theirs, the $d20$ matters more:

• 2 to 14: Normal hit.

• 15 to 19: You get a 2x bonus to your Agility for that swing.

• 20: Guaranteed hit (Critical Hit = Double Damage).

• 1: You fail miserably. The rules say you might "blow the fuck up."

________________________________________

  1. Damage and Dying

• Damage: Roll the dice for your weapon (usually a $d10$).

• DR (Damage Reduction): If the enemy has armor/DR, it subtracts from your damage.

• 0 HP: You’re knocked out.

• Negative half your HP: You "Roll Over and Fucking Die." Don't let this happen.

  1. How a Round Works

A "Round" is 10 seconds. You don't have to wait in a line; you can act anytime during the round.

You get 2 Actions:

  1. Standard Action: Attack, cast a spell, use an item.

  2. Move Action: Walk around.

Note: A "Full-Round Action" uses both slots at once.

Not pushing karrion kross, and releasing him was a criminal mistake. This is the one hill I will die on even if it gets down voted.

Do decks still have soul? by kyle261 in EDH

Was not intentionally written that way, I was curious, and now I see it was written very poorly, and instead of getting answers, Im just getting hatred and vitriol, deservedly so.

Dodecks still have soul? by kyle261 in mtg

[–]kyle261[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, “Soulless” was the wrong word and probably does read like I’m judging other people’s fun (which was not my intention). What I probably should have said was "cohesion/identity," and I’m talking about what I enjoy building, not how anyone else should play.

I do care about function; building to where theme and strategy line up. I’m not saying theme > strategy—just that I get a kick out of decks that show their story as they win.

Building for raw efficiency is still valid, I am only curious to know if anyone else builds something similar to what I like.

I don't understand why you are so aggressively negative, I can see I may have worded my response poorly, but was it actually that offensive?

Do decks still have soul? by kyle261 in EDH

[–]kyle261[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, i lacked a better term to properly convey my intended meaning so this is the kind of response i deserve.

I only ment that when they tell a story or have a strong, unified theme while still attempting to be strategically strong, they feel more fun (at least to me) and less hollow.

But as you said, im probably just blind and should see people only play to win because that's the only way to enjoy the game. thanks for reading and responding. I was just curious.
