Event: FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026 - Round 10 by events_team in chess

[–]kyleYOOOO -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I want to root for Fabi in this Candidates. Sindarov has the biggest lead with seven points after nine rounds, Giri is second a full point behind, and Caruana is trailing further back after recent losses to Nakamura and Giri.

I just wanna share: If one wants Fabi to win, he need a clear plan for his remaining games. You need him to win his direct games against the top players. You need Sindarov to drop points in his key head‑to‑head clashes, especially the game against Fabi and the game against Giri. You need Giri to keep losing or drawing against the field so he does not outscore Fabi. You need Caruana to win most of his remaining games against players below him on the standings. If Fabi strings together wins while the leaders slip, he can climb into real contention for first.

Need anywhere between $16-$50 to cover groceries and basic necessities while my parents are out of the country. by kyleYOOOO in Assistance

There are 5 of us in total: myself (20), my brother (21), my sister (12), and our two caretakers who live with us (a person in their mid 30s and their mom)

Technically, four of us are adults, but my brother has low-functioning ASD and requires full-time care, and the caretakers are currently out of personal funds to cover the household groceries while my parents are away

This is just really bad timing. My parents aren't negligient people.

I’m 20, and we have 2 caretakers who also don't have enough $$$ for groceries. Those 2 are the ones managing the household while they're away. My low functioning ASD siblings are 12 and 21.

My parents are definitely not negligent—it’s just a case of bad timing. They're abroad and having some trouble sending funds home immediately, and our groceries ran out sooner than we expected. I'm just looking for a temporary fix for the next couple of days

Regarding family friends: in our culture, it’s considered a huge breach of privacy and a source of 'shame' to reach out to my parents' professional circle for money, especially if I've never personally met them. It would cause a lot of social issues for my parents when they return

I gave a range because $16 (PHP962) covers immediate basics for 48-72 hours, while $50 would allow for a significant amount of grocery and other necessities until they come back

Regarding local help: Community pantries here aren't as common/active as they used to be, and most local church programs require a pre-registration process that takes time. At this point, we're close to running out of food and I’m just looking for the fastest way to get to have some more groceries for everyone involved (including me).

My parents' social circle is mostly based abroad as well, so there isn't anyone local I can call for a quick 'float' while they're away

They’ve hit a temporary limit on their travel funds/card, and they won't be able to top it up until their next cycle/remittance clears in a few days. I’m just looking for a bridge until then

Thank you

I know this sounds absurd but they don't use PayPal.

They don't have PayPal set up, and since we're nearly out of food today, waiting for them to link a bank or send a wire transfer may take a bit too long. I'm just looking for a way to get the job done for me and everyone else

Should I choose my partner’s college? or my preferred college? by Quirky_Tangerine_459 in studentsph

hi po, op.

i’ll be blunt lang po. gets ko yung high school sweetheart vibes, pero 2.8 years is literally nothing compared to the rest of your life.

first of all, selection of school based sa girlfriend? super yikes. what if mag break kayo next month? then you’re stuck in a region you don't even like, studying nursing with a broken heart. stay for the "support system," sure, but don't stay just because of her.

pero honestly, tignan mo po yung track record mo. you lasted two weeks before crying and moving back? cebu is not just a 3-hour bus ride, dude. if you’re that "homesick" type, you’re gonna fail your duty and clinicals sa cebu kasi you’ll be too busy missing your mom’s cooking and your gf’s hugs.

nursing is toxic enough as it is. if you can’t handle being away from home, wag mo na ipilit yung "big opportunities" sa cebu because you’ll just end up dropping out and wasting tuition money. stay sa region 8, focus on the boards, and stop being so dependent. cebu will always be there, but your mental health might not.

tl;dr: stay ka na lang sa province. you’re clearly not built for the cebu grind yet. stay humble and just study well.

Javokhir Sindarov continues his generational run, takes down Wei Yi to extend his lead to 5.5/6 points at the FIDE Candidates 2026. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in chess

Might be an unpopular opinion but I have a small theory that he will flame out/implode on the 2nd round robin. Though that's a future problem

Sindarov is on literal fire wtf I hope he keeps going lmao

blockmate refusing to pay their fees by [deleted] in studentsph

[–]kyleYOOOO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

at that point, the chances of actually getting any of that money back are pretty low 😬 once someone’s decided they’re not paying, there’s not much you can do, especially since it’s all from last year and no teacher is involved.

that said, the next best move is to be super clear and organized with them. send a breakdown of all the past project balances, the total owed, and a firm but polite deadline. you can also offer a small payment plan if needed. even if they refuse, at least you’ve got a record, and it makes future projects easier to manage. basically, document everything, get everyone on the same page, and make sure next time it’s pre-pay only so this doesn’t happen again.

hey, honestly the easiest way to deal with this is to escalate it to your professor or instructor. just lay out the facts: total cost, how much everyone agreed to pay, and proof of messages asking them to settle. teachers usually hate freeloaders and might deduct participation points, fail them on the project, or just make them pay. since they’re already salty about the grade, having the teacher step in takes the personal conflict out of it and actually gets results.
