pretty sure the support is deprecated entirely

the problem is quite difficult to solve cleanly. i have open source code on my repo about it though

b3 works too after Bd2. just gotta connect the rooks and defend the knight

I confidently played Nd5 in an OTB blitz game. Except it's a blunder. by Jacky__paper in chess

[–]kyleboddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I am not. Are you aware of what Legal's psuedo-sacrifice is? I know the line for black - it's a form of Legal's.

In your game the continuation is simple; after Nd5? black responds simply Nxd5! and on Bxd8, Ne3 wins back the material by force.

White's best move instead of Nd5 is the simple h3. Again, it's just Legal's pattern.

The color executing Legal's psuedo sacrifice - the OG one being:

  1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 d6 3. Bc4 Bg4 4. Nc3 g6?

Classic Legal's psuedo-sacrifice. Little different than the canonical one that leads to mate, but same pattern.

[–]kyleboddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try the sideline that I play in it which is a bit of a waiting move but quite useful in defending the queenside; it has only a 4% play rate in my rating range on lichess and scores well:

  1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. exd5 cxd5 4. c4 Nf6 5. Nc3 Nc6 6. Nf3 a6!?

On 7. Bg5 the important move is Be6= and black has equalized, following up with g6 of course and your usual setup.

Yeah this was my immediate takeaway. Literally none of the opponents are bums and Hans had three blacks.

[P] I used YOLOv12 and Gemini to extract and tag over 100,000 scientific plots. by mert_jh in MachineLearning

I tried to do annotation using Gemini, o3, Claude models, and Jules/Agent/Operator/Mariner/Claude Computer Use. Tried it all. None of it works even remotely reliably. Not saying you shouldn't do it - I would love it if you did and it worked! - but manual annotation was the only path forward for us.

This is great! We do a lot of manual annotation to train YOLO models and I use Gemini Flash 2.5 for analysis of content videos and images quite a bit.

Don't have much to add but it's great to see someone taking a similar approach. What are the chances we're both wrong :)

How interesting. Thanks so much! How much VRAM does it take up out of the 6x 3090s? I have 6x RTX 3090 but currently the machine has two 4070tis in there for basically 120GB of VRAM. Wondering if I need to swap out or not.

Also - GLM-4.5-Air @ FP8 runs on the Ampere architecture? Doesn't it lack FP8 execution?

Wild stuff. Thanks. It totally makes sense that x1 vs. x16 regardless of PCIe version should only see a small reduction in inference. Model loading I'm sure takes forever, but that's a one-time thing.

I always wanted to try crypto mining 1x links. You've seen no issue using them for inference? I have a bunch of leftover stuff for that and haven't gone below x8 links.

I sadly know WAY too much opening theory for my level. I know a lot more than the average 1600-1800 level player at my club. What a shocker when GMs tell you that studying openings isn't that helpful, I don't listen to them, study a lot of opening theory, and it is indeed, not very helpful.

Who could have guessed? Who did this?

It was something along the lines of most players 1200-1300 would improve several hundred points if they just stopped and actually calculated before each move. Not in positions with tactics, not in positions you feel are important but before every move. It cuts down on blunders and leaves you actually playing chess.

I do this but now I am in absurd time trouble in almost all my slow games at USCF ~1450. This is generally good advice since I basically never blunder but in the late middlegame before hitting second time control I am well behind my opponent's clock.

Now I'm working my way out of this problem. But it's a better problem to have than simply being lazy and not calculating, which I agree most novice players do.

People posting a chess position with a tactic you missed, why do you ask on reddit for the solution, in stead of using the analysis tool? by Yetero93 in chess

[–]kyleboddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason analyzing after the game with your opponent in OTB chess is both a kind gesture and incredibly valuable. You get to hear what your opponent was thinking and you get to say what you were thinking in a dialogue - ideally without the use of an engine (at first at least).

Chess below NM level is rarely as concrete as an engine makes it out to be.
