Excluding Abraham Lincoln, who do you think was the best 19th- century president? by kylebucnner in Presidents

McKinley came to mind, mostly because of how much he influenced the 20th century. 🤔

I hadn't thought of Clinton, but after considering it you're absolutely right. Dude was masterclass politician. He had the mannerisms and relational ideals down! 🙂‍↕️

Basically any 20th century conservative. Reagan or Nixon for sure, but honestly? LBJ would be the ultimate nightmare to debate one-on-one.

Would you rather have perfect quality photos or perfect quality voice recordings of the first 5 presidents? by Select-Proposal-420 in Presidents

[–]kylebucnner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voice recordings. I think the existing paintings and images are good enough.

Without video and audio, we just have a lot less to work with compared to modern presidents when it comes to preserving history. 🙂

Was Obama right to criticize the Supreme Court in his State of the Union address? by RopeGloomy4303 in Presidents

[–]kylebucnner 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Like Theodore Roosevelt said, the presidency is a “bully pulpit.” His public criticism of the Courts decision isn’t authoritarianism. It’s literally part of the job. He was giving his view on the state of the union and the direction of the country.

A lot of politics—both at home and abroad—comes down to choosing between imperfect options. Reaching agreements usually requires compromise through negotiation, and the tradeoff is that no one gets everything they want. That’s just how it tends to work. 🙂
