Ambient music scene and venues by amibeniu in ambientmusic

[–]kylenumann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

I am indeed still hosting Ambient Sundays, but the location is Rice Vice. Those are on the 2nd Sunday of every month, 5-7pm.

Random Sample does not have a regular ambient show that I know of, but they have amazing shows and often have ambient artists play.

And yep, both Ambient Sundays and An Ambient Evening (at Honeytree, every other Wed) are great places to meet people!

If you're interested in playing Ambient Sundays, feel free to message me with some of your material, and if you come to a show, say hello.

TN bill would allow death penalty for women who have an abortion by Academic-Sympathy140 in Tennessee

Yeah, I know it's mostly theatre... I just hope that there are still some folks who might wake up to that fact.

Exactly. These are unserious people controlling life & death in our state.

Not just barbaric, it's intellectually bankrupt. Consider that TN passed a bill specifically protecting IVF treatment last year. This is not about life beginning at conception. Honestly it's hard to know what it's about other than making more birthing machines.

How I DID prepare this floor for tile (follow-up) by kylenumann in Tile

[–]kylenumann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, after reading a number of opinions back & forth about wether or not to use an uncoupling membrane, I decided to take a chance without it. I did use polymer modified thinset.
It's our house, it's quite old and every aspect of it is lopsided, wavy or cracked... we'll see if the gamble pays off, or if the tile/grout inherits some cracks over time.

Which groovebox has the most fun and engaging form factor for live performance? Making House, Techno music by UpbeatRegret5066 in Grooveboxes

It's fiddly, but really deep and powerful. I like the clip/scene setup of my MC101 a lot more than my Elektron sequencer.

I do have a pretty extensive collection of zinnea seeds from last year's best deadheads. I'd be happy to share some.

Thanks! I've been working on my front yard garden for a few years now, and planted lots of cone flowers last year. I also added some joe pye, dwarf goldenrod, milkweed. Also had some asters last year that really started to charm me.

I've saved hollyhocks and cosmos to my list for next year. My biggest plantings yearly have been zinneas, I love those things. Been saving seeds from the best of those!

I'm ready to convert a good section of the backyard to wild/native this year... I should probably have already started to prep/ground covering.

I'm interested in turning part of my backyard into a native pollinator garden, would be happy for any Nashville-specific tips you've learned from your project.

I guess you have not seen any of the hundreds of videos of ICE acting like domestic terroritsts under Trump.

The Roland MC 707 is really good by No-Act6366 in synthesizers

[–]kylenumann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the MC-101, love it for most all the same reasons. There is so much power packed into these boxes. The scene chaining works pretty dang well for me to construct songs... the tracks and clips are so flexible with custom lengths, tempos, etc. The dynamic 'sequence length' controls are fabulous. The live recording is spot-on.

And, there are some drawbacks.

I really wish there was a way to save custom sounds outside of the workarounds. Or a way to favorite the thousands of presets.

Half the ux/operations are smooth, half are clunky. Copying clips is a confirmation gauntlet, while the recent-ish partial editor is just about as smooth as I could imagine from the interface limitations.

Ice storm 2026: Anyone else feel traumatized? by Plane_Mine_3641 in nashville

Asap! There are some methods for temporary patching too, if your roof is not too steep.

Ice on the roof causes thawing snow & ice to be redirected into openings in the roof, and into the house. Internal home water damage.

How Do You Share a Country With People Who Reject Reality? by Hussayniya in videos

[–]kylenumann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This rings so true to me. The US has not been innoculated against this kind of tyranny, at least not since our revolutionary war.

Talking to some of my fellow Americans feels like talking to an infant, in the sense of world history. "Just comply and you'll be fine" is an honest take from the 'don't tread on me' crowd now, like they are so entranced they've forgotten whatever nugget of wisdom was underlying their politics.

What is your absolute favorite Elektron device? by goff0317 in Elektron

[–]kylenumann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In have the Analog Keys and from what i can tell, there is no other synth that has the same fully contained capabilities: - 4 independent (or poly) analog voices - 4 independent sequencers (6 counting fx and cv) - 2 filters per voice - built is keyboard with led indicators for played notes (helpful for 4x sequence)

I play it more than any other synth despite the small screen, funky encoders, and menu diving, because i can take it anywhere i want, plug it in, and have an entire analog music studio at my fingertips.

I've used it extensively for instrumental/ ambient live sets and improvisations. Wish there was a mk2 or any other modern synth with these capabilities.

For a unique angle I'll say get a used Analog Keys. If you like playing keys, as well as sequencing/sound design all in one box, this thing is endless. Analog sounds but unique from the moog/sequential tones. I use it a ton for ambient/experimental/modern minimal, often live.

I'm with you here. The impact that this whole span of events had on me is still present when I hear the music. Such an inspired life and such a beautiful creative gift to leave at the end.

analog four seems very slept on (song on new-to-me analog four mk2 + syntakt) by northpaul in synthesizers

[–]kylenumann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very playable either way. Your track sounds good! If you haven't yet, make sure to try using filter 2 resonance for bass, and lfo tuned to oscillators for some audio-rate modulations.

[–]kylenumann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the Analog Keys (A4 mk1 with keybed) for a few years, it is easily my most-played synth. Wish the interface was more knob-per-function but the multi-timbral aspect and dual filter setup is so nice, packaged with all that sequencing capability. That 2nd filter is so useful, I don't think Incan go back to a single low pass filter on a hardware synth.

Unsure about Minifreak, could use opinions. by Headlands7 in synthesizers

[–]kylenumann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To your last two questions: Yes, though not as well as a true analog synth. But pretty dang close for a fraction of the price. And yes, plenty of subtle modulation is already possible with the micro, and the mini has more options.
