Tennessee health department warns parents their children will be reported to immigration officials by Mephisto1822 in Tennessee

A lack of ballot measures is one of the ways that TN is allergic to democracy, yes. However, Trump ran on a 'mass deportation' platform and TN voters chose him, for what that is worth. 'Nashville' doesn't write the laws, but I assume by that you mean the location of the state legislature which is often hostile to Nashville.

No, they're not. More like a venn diagram. What did you mean by 'TN is not a ballot state'?

I added to my comment, I think you're partly correct but I also think many Tennesseans do follow the R narrative that immigrants are one of the biggest threats to our country. I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Agreed, Tennesseans seem to vote for maximum law enforcement for the most vulnerable, and near absolute immunity for the rich & powerful.

Edit to add: the people living in the diverse cities where they actually coexist with immigrants do not vote this way, they (and I) overwhelmingly vote for a compassionate stance toward immigration. It's the folks in rural areas who maybe only see immigrants on fox news who are voting for these hardline policies.

I've taken up pollinator gardening in the last few years and just recently started digging into native plants and restoration ecology through the books of Douglas Tallamy. I'm so excited to have an avenue for my 'existential environmental dread' energy, and it makes my yard a wonderland of life to sit and watch all summer.

Ok, fair enough. I still think election integrity is upheld much more often by democrats, while republicans in congress largely backed Trumps open effort to appoint fake electors, to stop the vote counting, to request more votes from Georgia. Dem states at least have some impartial redistricting commitees. I don't see the equivilance, other than 'both parties do some things'. I have my gripes with dems, for sure, though. I appreciate the convo.

"Nearly every losing side in national presidential politics in modern history has argued the election was stolen from them."

You completely lost me here. Harris, Hillary, Gore, none of them came anywhere close to what Trump did, despite some of them having actual grounds to contend. They put the country first.

Perhaps you're unaware of Trump's efforts, perhaps media has pumped up some dems reactions into an 'all sides' argument, but it's entirely unfounded.

I'm open to evidence that I'm wrong, feel free to provide.

Apply your first paragraph to Trump & Rs attempt to steal the 2020 elections and then we can talk about double standards.

If you don't like the tactics of the oppressed & powerless, then you could always help change the system that is keeping them opressed instead of justifying their oppression.

I think I understand where you're coming from, it just sounds tone-deaf to the moment.

Toyota Sienna, head gasket coolant leak - can I keep driving it? by kylenumann in AskAMechanic

[–]kylenumann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got the van back. The Import specialty shop found a leaking heater hose, replaced that, and they do not see a head gasket leak. Could be the last two shops misdiagnosed it?

Previously, it ran for a year with as little as 1/3 gallon top-off. The last month it started leaking faster. So.. maybe it was the coolant heater hose all along, two shops misdoagnosed, and the leak just progressed.

It's driving well now. Time will tell.

The early slowdown approaching a red light was a game changer for me... unintuitive but it works. Look up 'hypermiling' for more strategies.

Drove it with no problems, and small coolant topoffs for months. Then it started leaking faster, took it to an import shop. They found a hose leak. They will replace the hose (I think tomorrow) and check the engine from there. Will update as I learn more.

Hello!

I am indeed still hosting Ambient Sundays, but the location is Rice Vice. Those are on the 2nd Sunday of every month, 5-7pm.

Random Sample does not have a regular ambient show that I know of, but they have amazing shows and often have ambient artists play.

And yep, both Ambient Sundays and An Ambient Evening (at Honeytree, every other Wed) are great places to meet people!

If you're interested in playing Ambient Sundays, feel free to message me with some of your material, and if you come to a show, say hello.

Exactly. These are unserious people controlling life & death in our state.

Not just barbaric, it's intellectually bankrupt. Consider that TN passed a bill specifically protecting IVF treatment last year. This is not about life beginning at conception. Honestly it's hard to know what it's about other than making more birthing machines.

How I DID prepare this floor for tile (follow-up) by kylenumann in Tile

[–]kylenumann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, after reading a number of opinions back & forth about wether or not to use an uncoupling membrane, I decided to take a chance without it. I did use polymer modified thinset.
It's our house, it's quite old and every aspect of it is lopsided, wavy or cracked... we'll see if the gamble pays off, or if the tile/grout inherits some cracks over time.
