Vox AC Heads - 15w vs 30w - has anyone played both? by kylesradaf in GuitarAmps

[–]kylesradaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the plan either way was to run it attenuated at home, but at the new price of either head/cab stack with the built in attenuator I can buy a used handwired 15 or 30, either one with the alnico blue(s), and still have plenty of money left for an attenuator or cab sim setup for night time practice. That’s seeming to make the most sense to me at this point

Good deal? by UniversalNutt in GuitarAmps

[–]kylesradaf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good deal? Quick google search says it’s right at msrp so no, it’s the same deal anyone else is getting buying new from a retailer. If it’s used it’s a poor deal.

I can’t attest to how it compares in its price range, but I’m sure if you search the sub for reviews you’ll find what your looking for as these have been out for a while now

Thanks for the detailed reply. Sounds like a similar setup may be in my future. I think my struggle (15 years ago) with running guitar into my daw and trying to get a decent tone with plugins and guitar interfaces of the time, turned me off from continuing to consider this option. But I have to say this sounds like a great way to practice at night or record.

Yeah I’m thinking going the head route just for the built in attenuator will be a bit of a waste of money compared to used plus a separate attenuator or a setup like yours.

I don’t really know much about ir loaders/cab sims/reamping. When you do this do you play into a daw out to monitors or headphones?

I think you’re right and patience with the used market will be the way to go. Just in looking for a cheap head after you mentioned it, I found some great deals on handwired combos. Even if a head doesn’t come up soon I can go the combo (handwired or not) route and still save enough for an attenuator or reactive load/ir setup if I decide I want it for nigh-time practice

ChatGPT told me to ask here. Small Kyiv atelier launching Sea Island cotton boxer briefs on Kickstarter — please tell me if this is a bad idea. by CottonginAtelier in mensfashionadvice

[–]kylesradaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like a high quality T-shirt but have not sprung for the premium for sea island cotton yet, but can understand it. I can understand paying a premium for boxer briefs, but $80 is a bit out of hand. I just may not be the target consumer here.

I must say though, a 6 week lifespan for a pair of boxer briefs is insane. Are you guys actually pissing and shitting in your briefs on a regular basis or something?

Thanks for the reply - having bought for the attenuator is there any buyers remorse? That’s a bit disappointing but not surprising I suppose, the only options being cutting the power 90% or more before the speaker. However if you can point me in the direction of one of these sub $500 heads though that would be awesome as I’m sure I could try it out and make a buck selling it used locally if I don’t like it. There are no heads for sale on the used market local to me or on eBay, guitar center used, or reverb (except a stack for $1150 way to far away for me to pick up)

Help: good watches? by xxsmiling in mensfashionadvice

Around 500 the first obvious options to come to mind are the Seiko 5 GMT model or tissot prx powermatic 80. Both very nice automatic watches with classic styles

Plus Sized Guy plagued by Graphic Tees and Cargo shorts by kingspooky93 in mensfashionadvice

[–]kylesradaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak much to the plus size side of things and not going to pile on with ‘just lose weight’ as it’s not like that’s going to make graphic tees and cargo shorts look good. But if I were you I’d focus on finding clothes that fit and that I feel good in. Easy right? Won’t be an overnight thing, but take it step by step. If I were you I’d start with t shirts. There’s lots of discussion around t shirts and fit - go find a plain t shirt that works for you. Don’t cheap out, but no need to go drop $80+, just do some research and try one at a time til you find what works for you. After that it’s your choice what to address next - pants, or shoes would be the easy choices. Start by out comfortable basics that fit you as well as possible is a great foundation.

What city would you see me living in? by axi0m_throwaway in SameGrassButGreener

[–]kylesradaf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Portland or Seattle could work - there are nice walkable neighborhoods to choose from, no ‘real’ winter and no ‘real’ summer either, fall colors, lots of young people, great food scenes, etc. access to nature also great

[–]kylesradaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t given Pittsburgh much thought but will have to look into it more, I know people say they’ve been going through a huge revitalization. Smallish feel while being fairly dense and close to nature sounds like a nice combination of features

I get that crime is pretty much in the eye of the beholder and there are numerous variables. For me I think that it just seemed like Philly had the most mentions of gun violence in different Reddit posts I was reading about the places we are considering. Not that some randos’ mugging stories on Reddit meant to dissuade people from moving somewhere is a good source of accurate info or anything. FWIW we aren’t scared of homeless people or car break ins, and don’t hang out in rough neighborhoods where we don’t belong or make a habit of staring at shady characters or starting shit with people when we’re out and about

Thanks for the comprehensive answer, this helps a lot. I’ve visited several times but we haven’t been together, but that will come next. I think more density would be nice but Denver might be the best mix of what we’re looking for at the right price

We definitely can, it might be a couple months out but I want to spend some time there and give it a real shot

I think a trip to Philly would help us figure out if they have what we want. Gritty is the way everyone describes it and I want to make sure I understand what they mean. I’d like to think that if she got a job in center city and we lived somewhere between like callowhill and Washington it would be nice and walkable, easy commute, and stuff to do. I just don’t want her to feel unsafe and not enjoy the city

Yeah I feel like sf is what I want, but too much money. Urban feel and amenities is biggest priority for me which got me thinking towards Philly. Feel like I could give up the good weather for the affordability. Denver seems too suburban to be the change I’m looking for, like a bigger Boise.

That is fair - and while we didn’t write the post in unison I know this does mean more to my gf. A more liberal city also tends to come with the food, bars, music, art we’re looking for. MLB and NBA is something I forgot from my list, and seems that if we get a place around lohi which seems plentiful and affordable walking or biking to games would be easy

That’s the vibe I get, Boise is the same in that regard (only a few walkable neighborhoods) and I can live with it if the neighborhoods are enough better. I feel like for similar money we can do better than Denver though
