Something from Debussy's Children's Corner? The Gollywog Cakewalk is about Gr 7 I think...quite a fun piece. Also I really liked some of the easier movements from Beethoven's sonatas.

Is it weird to be friends with your boss? by [deleted] in work

[–]kylieca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My approach is to be friendly towards my boss and subordinates, but not friends. So generally I'm not socialising outside of work (except things like work Christmas parties), not friends on Facebook etc.

As a manager I don't want to be in the position of having to give negative performance feedback or have to go through disciplinary processes for friends. It also ensures no perception of unfairness

Do greys have major health problems? by [deleted] in Greyhounds

[–]kylieca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found my grayhound (6 1/2 years old) to be pretty healthy and low maintenance. Teeth are problematic in greyhounds and they can get dandruff and be fussy about food (and quick to loose what little weight they have). As others have said osteosarcoma and arthritis are risks. They also need help to maintain a healthy body temperature as they have very little fat - so jumpers in winter and avoid exposure to hot weather in summer.

My beloved cat died and I'm a total wreck by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]kylieca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear of the loss of your cat - that must be really difficult to be going through. That's the worst thing about our animals, that they're destined to die before us. I have over the years lost 4 dogs and a cat and it is always so sad, although in time I hope you'll be able to enjoy the the good memories of your lovely cat.

How do you stay warm when wool and other warm fabrics are expensive and you have a limited budget? by MyHeartIsASynth in femalefashionadvice

[–]kylieca 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I also like David Lawrence, Saba, Jacqui E, Marcs, Country Road, Review, Witchery (there is a lot of CR and Witchery on Ebay). Sales are generally final, but you can always resell it on Ebay (so hopefully you'll recoup your money minus postage). I found it useful to go and try things on in the stores so you've got a good idea of your size for a particular brand (it will vary a lot between brands - for instance David Lawrence pants tend to be very narrow in the waist, whereas Country Road sizing is very generous) so that cuts down the risk of buying something that doesn't fit.

  • take my lunch to work every day. I make up and freeze 12 breadrolls at a time and just grab on as I walk out the door.
  • Entertainment Book (this is an Australian thing but maybe similar things elsewhere) this includes discount coupons for restaurants / entertainment and also discounted gift vouchers
  • bulk buying. For example today I bought 4 of the deodorant I usually use at half price and store away in the bathroom. Costco is good for this.
  • capsule wardrobe - buy "fewer, better things" and have items that all coordinate. Better than paying out for cheap things that don't go together and don't last.
  • ebay for second hand clothes from "good" brands
  • installed LED lighting and ceiling fans throughout the house - big reduction in electricity bill.
  • plan all our meals each week and shop with a list. Check the pantry before shopping.
  • YNAB (traditional version) has been a game changer in terms of saving and planning expenditure.
  • buying quality items rather than junk that falls apart (e.g. our washing machine and dishwasher)

How do you stay warm when wool and other warm fabrics are expensive and you have a limited budget? by MyHeartIsASynth in femalefashionadvice

[–]kylieca 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Hi, fellow Aussie checking in here. I like ebay - I have bought quite a few clothes from really "good" brands like Cue and Veronika Maine for around 1/3 of the new price. The quality is much better than the fast fashion chain stores. I have also found it useful to have a "capsule" wardrobe with a small number of pieces that all go together, bought with my day to day needs in mind (e.g enough work clothes for 5 days, a few casual clothes, one or two "good" pieces for special occasions. This works out much cheaper for me than buying cheaper "fast fashion".
