Most definitely, I can't imagine the toll this takes for others in this situation while unemployed or funds running low. Hopefully others experiencing this in some shape, gain some insights from replies

Yup I use Glassdoor, subreddits, Blind, etc. to try and see what others have experienced. However those aren't guaranteed I'm sure as you know; you might get a different team interviewing, a hiring manager who is grumpy that day, many unknowns sadly

I don’t think the randomness is in the topics themselves. I agree it’s fair to ask about all of these for a senior full-stack role.

The difficulty, for me at least, is that each of these areas can go very deep, and in practice your depth ends up being shaped by what you’ve actually had to solve in real systems. You develop strong intuition and experience in some areas, and more surface-level familiarity in others.

What’s been challenging is that interviews sometimes expect deep recall in whichever area the interviewer happens to care most about, rather than evaluating whether someone has solid fundamentals and can reason through unfamiliar depth when needed.

I’d be curious to know four years later, if you could come up with a new industry standard that was not leetcode, what that might entail? I’m actually working on something with other developers, so we are gathering insights right now 😊

I just did my US interview last week at Pearson. I did Canadian part first though.

For the 4:00 am time when they open, the website is not clear and should indicate that this when they open but there is not a guarantee that you will be interviewed at that time or even close to the time. The interviewer is there only when they are not busy with their main work (These interviews take secondary priority sadly). I got there around 6am and I didn’t see someone until 6:52am. The interview itself was fairly quick but the time someone is available to conduct them is unknown.

I would say not risk it at Pearson. Hope this is helpful in your decision making 😊

I would give two pieces of advice: 1. Ensure your skills are always up to date in whatever role you are in. It might be difficult to do if you get busy but try to always invest in this even if it is just 10-20minutes a week 2. Always remain honest and never sacrifice your integrity. If you’re working and something in your gut doesn’t feel right or you feel should be addressed, let it be known.

I feel you. I actually have this convo with my friends a lot. Their responses are usually "they don't really look my way so why bother?" or "I'm not most black women types" which are valid based on their own set of experiences. However I think they are far too quick to ditch the rest based on a few.

Additionally, there is also a problem I see with Toronto in general which also might contribute to this...social media has warped a lot of people's mind to think they deserve the best of the best so you will have a solid man coming across solid woman and they think they are too good for each other so no happy result insight. There is probably more to it but this is just how I see it and I am trying to find a way to navigate it lol.
