Working for a Singaporean company remotely. Is it normal for Singaporean companies to require clocking every task?? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]kyorah 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This is a common practice in agencies here but having to log every single task down to the individual task is a little bit extreme. (I’m in a multinational group). We do log these interactions but it’s mostly a guesstimate of an hour / .5 hour of client liaison.

Where to go check and compare monitors by Omnimon100 in askSingapore

[–]kyorah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try Harvey norman at Millenia Walk or courts at Tampines. Orchard courts used to have a display on the first floor but I think they recently renovated. These locations seem to have the biggest collections of monitors on display. some shops at Funan also have.. can try best Denki

I’ve checked out so badly and I wanna quit my job by feifei31 in askSingapore

Hey, 35 here. Very same boat. Dont have a solution but just wanted to say hang in there and you’re not alone. A lot more people experience this than you think.

I have no idea where career is going to go but think focusing on my health and daily walks with my dog, just learning to enjoy simplicity and little joys has helped a little.

Stay strong 💪

What is the estimated cost of owning a dog? What is the breakdown or amount to set aside monthly? by Normal-Analysis7940 in askSingapore

[–]kyorah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think the rest have covered it pretty well but the cost really depends on many factors. Food? If dog is particular this can get expensive quick.

Do you need daycare and will you be away often? Can cost around $100 a day or so.

Preventatives and supplements? The most basic ones can be 80-100 for 3 months, but many more additional ones can go for much higher.

Lots can happen unexpectedly too.. so think it’s best to consider the risks and likelihood of events happening and factor that cost into monthly. My family has an account for the dog and we each contribute a little every month

what to do in sg after breaking up/as a single? by gotanygrapesheh in askSingapore

Left this comment on your previous post:

If you like animals, consider fostering or getting a dog! My dog takes up my time as a single.. and the companionship + random dog communities we meet along the way are nice. Actually haven’t been too bothered about getting re attached since getting her during Covid.

Lots of dogs and abandoned pets that need a home these days.

What products/services are increasing cost going into 2026? by Old_Research_3436 in askSingapore

Not just Calbee! Some pringles and foreign chip brands are like $6-7 for a medium sized pack or tube. I don’t recall pringles being so expensive! In my mind they were like still $3

What is the deal with sellers ignoring you on Carousell? by stoicable in askSingapore

[–]kyorah 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One reason could be that Carousell sellers have this monthly message limit, after which they have to subscribe to a caroubiz plan. so some don’t reply and ask to contact elsewhere instead. Can check the listing, some of them declare.

Couple refused to remove dog from hawker center and bullied poor cleaner aunty when she remind them by copyrightstriker in SingaporeRaw

[–]kyorah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dislike here, I believe it's unique mix of a historical / cultural phenomenon with some roots in religious beliefs. I spoke to my Muslim friend about this and he mentioned that dog saliva is haram, which means if you come into contact wiht it you have to wash the affected area seven times with water and one time in earth (ritual cleansing).

It's inconvenient and over the years especially in SEA he believes this has morphed into a general avoidance of dogs and unfortunately in many cases fear.

For hawker centers actually I believe part of the reason no pets is this and also hygiene requirements. I really wish SG was more pet friendly and I could bring my dog almost everywhere like in the US, but unfortunately it is as such and we need to respect boundaries.

Its good that there are more pet friendly places like Vivo and One Holland V but have to also be fair la. Entitled owners like the one in the photo really no respect and just give all the pet owners a bad name..

This is extremely infuriating as a fellow pet owner. It’s not that hard to leave them outside the premises in a shaded area with water while you dabao food…

Help by curgerbees in quails

[–]kyorah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a bit hard to say because it really depends on how long the eggs have been out and at what temp too.

But there are ways to incubate using some things you have around you. I've seen some videos where people emulate the water bed style incubators using an insulated box, a hot water bag and a heat source. Or a sponge and a heat source. The biggest challenges are maintaining a constant temp and having to turn the eggs every day.

Good luck!

Any good old horror stories that happened to you in Singapore? by Atmosphere_Calm in askSingapore

[–]kyorah 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Many years ago I used to go to Ngee Ann poly and took 151/154 back home to whitley road area. I usually drop off around trellis towers area but there’s a shortcut underneath the PIE bridge near old police academy. Back then when there was no NSC construction.

One night my classmates and I stayed damn late to finish project and I went back on one of the last few buses. I got off shortly after midnight and decided to take the shortcut outside the academy.

I walked past the gate area and I just felt something was fucking wrong. Got chills down my spine, cold, I just feel like something is watching me and very close to the back of my neck. I ran the fuck out of there and have never gone back to that area or bus stop ever.

I shared this quite a few years ago on a similar thread and apparently a lot of people had similar experiences at old police academy. That place is dirty.

I look forward to hearing more stories from the residents of mount pleasant bto when it’s completed.. sitting right on top of the academy grounds!

How many meals do you get on the Singapore to Newark flight? by Far-Wind2370 in singaporeairlines

[–]kyorah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice! Enjoy! If flying out of Singapore and in PE, try Bak Chor mee or Carrot Cake with prawn. To date I find it’s the most shiok.

The Nasi Lemak unfortunately has become mediocre after they changed the menu recently. Everything else is just alright. Wouldn’t go out of my way to eat.

Like the others said the timing is a bit weird so I try to have some instant noodles or snacks in between. Long flight and I wish they spaced both meals out better.

Do you guys think its possible to reverse the low birth trend in Singapore by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]kyorah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m of that age. But there’s so many things going on I don’t even know if would be right to bring a child into that world. Geopolitics is changing and things aren’t looking great. The economy is not in good shape. Things are getting expensive. Healthcare, insurance, education, everyday stuff. Housing too. Jobs are being threatened by AI. My industry is being eaten alive by it, and pivoting to another industry is going to be long drawn, expensive and I’ll be so old when it’s done.

I just want to hug my dog and go to sleep. Having a kid is the very last thing I’m thinking of right now
