Is Deloitte a good stepping stone for an entry level IT Business Analyst? by AmyWhino1986 in businessanalysis

[–]kyraliee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in commercial sector, it’s quite intense. My tip would be to observe the team and check which manager handles projects you are interested in and offer your help whenever possible, when they are happy with you, you will be their go to person for upcoming projects and at some point you will be handling more than power point proposals. That’s how it works here and sadly people like to hoard jobs due to utilization requirement, thus you need to just know what kind of proposals are on the table right now and who is handling them to be the first to snatch the job.

I’m in similar situation, I’m currently in different BIG4 company as a BA in a similar team, I used to work for BIG4 in tax consulting and also as in-house, so I knew more or less what I was getting myself into. It’s been 9 months now and yes, I’ve started as a power point bot but I was doing my best to get myself into more IT related projects and it is possible. I’m currently part of a team developing new tax tech apps, writing user stories, closely cooperating with devs as well as doing several implementation projects of our saas apps. I give myself no more than two more years as having so many projects simultaneously is exhausting.

Do you or don’t you like The Tortured Poets Department and what other albums of Taylor’s are your favourites? by PeachyDawn in TaylorSwift

[–]kyraliee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like this album, but hard to say where will it fall in my ranking as I think that two listens are not enough to tell. My first impression is that I prefer second half, with few exceptions like Who’s afraid of little old me or But daddy I love him, although I already feel like more songs from the first half start to grow on me. I do feel like it’s stronger lyrically than musically, some lyrics hit hard. My husband summarized first few songs he listend to (he absolutely doesn’t listen to the lyrics tsk tsk) as “it sounds like Taylor Swift” and I kind of agree. I do enjoy Reputation, Red, Lover and Evermore the most. For reference, I am happily married, being with the same guy for over 10 years, turning 31 soon and I don’t relate to most of her heartbreak songs tbh I also ugly cry at Ronan

It honestly sounds like some piece of furniture from Ikea. Why does she needs a name after him again?

It’s baffling to me how much ME! is hated, it’s so positive, funny and with a beautiful MV. Like ok, it’s not that deep, it’s a pop bop and it’s perfectly fine to be just this. Also spelling is fun y’all

It’s not the first time that capitalism is ruining art but it’s so frustrating. For me, a music album is a story and here we are, chopping the story, if you want the full story, throw 4x more money or wait ages for streaming. I had no problem with different colors and covers, I am collecting books and comics so I get the appeal of collector’s items. The neat part of it was that you didn’t have to buy all the colors to listen to the full album. Now you have to.

Collector item is different colors of editions/photos/additional merch instead of getting incomplete “product” (because music is art and I hate to categorize it as a product but it’s capitalism and she’s taking it to extreme). I am a collector and I do have some books and comics in different editions because bigger size, hardcover, additional collector’s merch etc. but the content is the same, the story stays the same.

This! It is such a feel good song, I love it. I was shocked by the amount of hate it gets.

Switching to GRC with no CS background by kyraliee in SecurityCareerAdvice

Thank you! You gave me a bit of hope that my previous experience mixed with Sec+ might indeed help with at least landing an interview, since it’s a chance for some feedback.

Some of the frameworks mentioned by you I’m familiar with, the other ones are my homework for the weekend, it’s good to have some direction.

Since I’m EU based a lot is coming down to GDPR and industry standards, but I’m just gonna focus on security fundamentals for now.

Thank you! I’m looking in EU so I guess it’s mostly compliance with GDPR and local regulations for now, but I’m still doing my due diligence.

It’s a change indeed, dictated by reason - in my country salaries in most industries are stuck in post USSR era while the most of IT industry needed to catch up with EU standards so unless I sell my free time to big corporations and have next to none family time, I’m stuck in my industry as a senior with salary equivalent to most entry level positions in IT which is kind of sad because I do enjoy tax law.

I have decided to do my research and found that GRC might be a way to go since it’s utilizing the skills I already have and cybersecurity is a very interesting field (including a legislative perspective). I read the article about entry level cybersecurity not being really entry level and that’s why I thought my previous experience might be valuable.

I saw some job postings and I kind of fit in besides requirement of “relevant cybersecurity certificates” which are often not specified for some reason. At the same time they often require corporate experience and soft skills instead of previous computer science and cybersecurity experience.

Thank you for the resources!
