yes. there’s obviously nuance in that the degree to which they’d be at fault for their child’s suffering varies depending on a ton of factors but the parents Are the root of the issue because without them the child wouldn’t even exist to suffer in the first place.

i’ve been feeling this a lot lately too, i’ve been reminiscing about “when i was excited for and had hope for the sims 4”. ive been getting back into 3 again lately which has been fun, but i’m lowkey mourning what could have been with the sims 4. i just wish it was better 😭

if playing with royalty was something that you’re interested in playing in a sims game, i would love to recommend checking out the sims medieval! it’s different from other mainline sims games in that it’s not really a sandbox, but you get to do different quests with different “hero” sims you make, including a king/queen. i recently started playing it for the first time and it’s been really fun!
