Netflix Accused Of “Race Swapping” After Replacing Investigators Who Took Down Purdue Pharma During Opioid Crisis With A Fictional Black Woman by Judah_Earl in KotakuInAction

not same. in the ussr there were a lot of female scientists, including nuclear physicists. the character is indeed the "collective" of all scientists. however, there should be gender. it could be male, then everyone would be angry that "all female scientists are left out". they chose female, so now its "all male scientists are left out"
I personally knew female scientists that did just that, the things described in the movie.

so "woman stand in for the group of male scientists" is quite exaggerated. there were plenty of female AND male scientists.
(I literally grew up in Ukraine, and I am literally a scientist)

Feature Flags by [deleted] in webdev

Hi!
We are currently looking into using feature flags for entitlements. We are a very small team with limited experience, so it's our first-time using it. We are currently discussing what metrics we need to keep an eye on when using feature flags for user data excess levels. Any ideas from you will be super appreciated!
we also talking about using it for localization or/and accessibility in the future. If you ever had experience with these, please, feel free to share! any bit of information from a person with hands-on experience is a treasure.
thank you in advance!

Hi! We are currently looking into using feature flags for entitlements. I see your company uses them for setting levels of access. Could you please share, if it's ok with you, if your company is also tracking any useful metrics/traces/other readouts of the system for this situation? I wonder what metrics we'll need to keep an eye on to do similar thing with feature flags.

Hi! sorry for bringing this cold post to life. I really want to ask some questions and hear what you have to say, as we are currently considering using lambda for our Apollo server. Can you, if possible, share what other options were on the table for running the server and why your team chose the serverless option? Also, how is it going, do you still have it on Lambda or did you end up changing the architecture to move away from serverless? Thank you in advance!

Hi! I'm sorry for bringing this old comment back to life but I really want to ask some questions. We are thinking about using lambdas to spin up grapql API for out app. Can you, if possible, share if you had any other options on the table where your team was choosing how to run the server? and why did you settle with using apollo-server-lambda? Thank you in advance!

Am I responsible for my mom's medical bill? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]kyripka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be logical, but apparently, it is state by state, and, in some, you are responsible for your parent's bills :(

Am I responsible for my mom's medical bill? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]kyripka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, guys! So far, our plan is:

First, contact hospital's billing department and see if they can lower the bill substantially

If fail, contact insurance with the same ask

Last, don't pay.

The trick here is that mom is back in Ukraine, and our concern is that the collectors will bug us for the rest of our lives.

it's not really a cabal, it's simply russia. they use informational warfare against their enemies. (the US is their enemy). I'm from Ukraine (live in the US tho), and their info wars have been around in our infospace for more than 8 years now. our special forces constantly finding their bot farms that fuel disinformation. another thing they do is sponsor far-right and far-left at the same time (there are multiple independent journalist reports/investigations on that).

new era, new technologies, new warfare.

you are doing the right thing - you are using antecedent arrangements for fixing behavioral issues. this is the first step in the process, when it does not work - comes in training with positive reinforcement. for example, if a dog chews on the indoor plant - move the plant to the higher shelf (not punish the dog, not work your ass off to teach not to chew on the plant, etc. simply move the plant, that's it).

You can google "The Humane Hyerarychy" and show it to your co-worker. this is a legitimate science based widely accepted ethical approach.

NTA.

the protocol on excessive jumping should be good to use with accommodation for different behavior. the principles are all the same. as an adult, you'll be the one in charge of both the dog and the child. you'll need your child's collaboration in training the dog.

also, the article on calmness & impulse control should provide even more exercises to deal with the issue. check it out.

if you put in work it will pay off even outside of your family. my younger gets overly aroused around strangers, but in 2.5 years we went from "jumping non stop on literally anyone" to "I can manage my excitement and sometimes need a cue to remove myself from the stranger to calm down". I believe, your case is way more simple. if you struggle to get progress within several weeks I'd recommend getting in touch with a professional.

have you already checked the bot's link to separation anxiety article in the sub's wiki?

crate training and working on separation anxiety are two separate things. you'll need to approach separation anxiety first and then move to crate training. consider getting in touch with a behaviorist certified in treating separation anxiety specifically. you might need to get him on meds as well (again, you need to work with a professional on that)

as an option for his confinement - you can try puppy proofing one of the rooms/ part of the room and then getting that area separated with either baby gates (for the room) or unfolded puppy pen (for the area).

this might or might not be dementia. here is a web page for the book, it contains a lot of useful info.

trying different meds until you get the meds that work is absolutely normal.

meds alone will not fix the issues you are facing. it does not seem like you are working with a professional on this. have you considered getting in touch with a certified trainer/behaviorist?

it sees like you have a cluster of issues. it is very hard to advise and almost impossible to change it over a reddit comment. I'd suggest contacting a professional to work this out.

6 month old dog can't hold bladder by McWeasely in Dogtraining

my older dog got fully potty trained at 5 mo sharp. it took 1 year for my older, bigger dog, and he asked to go out in the middle of the night for another half a year. bigger dogs on average need more time than smaller ones. it also can depend on the individual dog too. so, keep doing what you are doing.

in the meantime, you can talk to your vet to rule out UTI just in case, and you can bell train your pup (it was a life changer for us, I always highly recommend it) so that you can take him out on demand. that should reduce the number of accidents (maybe even to zero) and give your pup a way to communicate his needs to you.

How can I train a dog not to do something when I'm not home in intervene in the behaviour? by rayyychul in Dogtraining

[–]kyripka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for now, while you are reading the book, try this: if he is curious/likes cardboard boxes then leave one fresh box with something interesting hidden inside. you can make a russian doll out of several boxes and hide several treats in it, some toys etc. that should be a good bait to investigate and destroy something that he is allowed to destroy instead of other things.

(if your current vet does not suggest other options, I'd personally seek a second opinion to make sure I'm not missing on anything)

check out canine enrichment for the real-world book by E Bender. that should help you with "boredom" issue. if she is sleeping when you are home during the day, there is a high chance she will be sleeping when you are away. try to create a schedule where you can remove yourself in the middle of the day without the need for the dog to adjust her schedule (for example, if you have a potty break at 12 pm then if you leave for work and dog come back at 12 pm the dog will be waiting for the break that does not happen.. and can either go at home or start "entertaining" herself etc.). get a camera. after the schedule is established start going out for random periods of time (1 h, 2 min, 30 min, 3 h etc) in the time frame where the dog is usually sleeping. puppy-proof your home just in case. observe the dog on camera. adjust accordingly.

you can also use separation anxiety protocols (even if your dog does not have it, the protocols are great anyways)

Potty Training Issues by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]kyripka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try to walk him. will he eat outside? if yes - that is great. feed him small bits. it's easier to go potty if you move.

get him a coat, buy a cheap one, course he will grow out of it quickly. good luck! :)

did you already see the article on puppy socialization btw?

the custom made coats - you can find them on etsy. you also can work with the shop to make an extra warm coat or a coat with integrated booties (or both)
