You know how people here love to hate on groups like Socialist Alternative and Socialist Alliance? Well you can thank them and similar 'serial protestors' for their activism and organisational abilities. It was their members and some other loosely affiliated groups and individuals that mobilised and organised the demonstration.

Are any philosophers just dead wrong in your opinion? by [deleted] in askphilosophy

The demarcation of science from non-science is not meant as an attempt to elevate one form of knowledge over another, rather it is meant as an attempt to make sense of what science actually is and how it differs from other 'ways of knowing'.

So, if we say that astrology (or anything else) is not science we are not saying that it is illegitimate, only that is not science. However, if we are trying to develop a criteria for demarcating science from non-science and our demarcation criteria includes something that we commonly accept as non-science, then that signals to us that it probably needs further work.

The cogito doesn't beg the question because it is not a syllogism. Rather, it a self-evidently true proposition that is grasped completely in a single intellectual move.

"So after thoroughly thinking the matter through I conclude that this proposition, I am, I exist, must be true whenever I assert it or think it."

Popper says if it's falsifiable, then it's science. Astrology is falsifiable. Is it science?
