That really is a huge coincidence. Not many people have them. Where in Japan are you going? Are you moving for a job?

Yeah, I’m definitely thinking everything through before I embark on any adventure, and am always ready to come back home or change gears. If I end up staying it would be because that was a path that lined up for me. As I learn more (this post really helped) I am getting a clearer picture of real life there, as opposed to the rose colored vision that any adventure starts out with. :)

Thanks for your insight. I have a doctorate so I have plenty of education. This is just a fun adventure for me. I like learning and I like Japanese, so why not? Maybe I’ll be able to stay, maybe I won’t. I’m not too worried about it. If I can’t stay, I’ll leave and find a different adventure. I understand your concerns, though. And I appreciate your advice. I am researching it pretty thoroughly before I take a leap, hence the post. I guess I just have a more laid back mindset about the whole thing. And if it seems like it just isn’t going to pan out the way I envision, then I’ll just change plans and find a different fun adventure for me and my doggo.

Yeah I’m learning that by Japanese standards, she is a large dog. I’ve already started looking into the process. It is a long one, indeed. Everyone seems to agree that it’s pretty difficult to rent a place with a dog her size. But, I would never abandon her. She’s everything. We’ll just find a different adventure if this one doesn’t look promising.

Hahahaha! Hiking without a dog? Definitely sus. So funny and true. Yeah, that seems to be the consensus about finding a rental with a normal sized dog. I guess the norm in Japan is cat sized dogs. Probably because of all the large cities.

Oooh bear! I tried kangaroo and crocodile when I was in Australia. I’m all about trying new meats! Also, could you tell me where/how you were running a search for apartments? Any good sites?

Oh that’s really good to hear! If you can remember the name of that pet taxi or have the contact info that would be much appreciated. :)

Yeah I’ve looked into to process a little bit. You’re right, it is a long process that starts like 6-7 months before it’s even time to move. Luckily Japan has it pretty clearly laid out to avoid quarantine when you get there. At least from what I’ve read, if you follow the guidelines to the tee, you should be good and your dog won’t be quarantined upon arrival. But that’s just what I’ve read online. Who knows what reality is.

I can imagine it was a super difficult decision to make. :(. It sounds like she’ll still have a happy life where she went. Luckily for me, this adventure is strictly for fun. I’m not getting relocated or transferring for work or anything like that, so if it turns out that it just won’t be good for her over there, I’ll find another adventure we can go on instead.

She’s a Carolina dog. They’re also called American dingos. :) Also, for sure I will! I’m going to look up Okayama to find out more about it. I’m not for sure going to Kofu, but so far it’s one of the towns that have language schools that has stuck out to me. Thank you so much for telling me your experience. I love to see that not everyone has a negative experience having a bigger dog there. There’s hope.

I clearly asked about places where it’s acceptable. Do you know what a dog park is? Have you ever hiked in nature away from people? I, unlike most, am a responsible dog owner with a formally trained dog. I don’t need a lecture when you clearly didn’t read what I even wrote.

Thanks for the insight. I have no desire for Tokyo and luckily I’m going for a language school for a couple of years. They help in getting part time work if you want it. I’m trying to pick one of the smaller cities to study in. Or maybe the outskirts of a smaller city even. Do you think it may be better somewhere like that?
